I am recording a stereo track from a mixer's main outs to my computer's line in via my sound card. the mixers VU meter shows both channels topping out between 0 and 6. The PT VU input also shows and even input on both channels- around -6. Once recorded the Right channel looks and plays back fine but the left is barley audible and it is shown in the track view that way -see attached. I checked my sound card recording balance and windows record balance -all good. any ideas on what else to check would be appreciated.

Try swapping the mixer outputs to see if the low volume channel swaps.
Check your recording tracks to make sure they are set for stereo and not mono.

I did both -track is stereo and I swapped mixer output cables -PT vu meters still show both tracks at same level, but when I keep the take left channel has very little volume.

What do the cables coming out of the mixer connect to?

You say Soundcard, but what exactly is it?

Does the same thing happen if you make the target track in PT a MONO track?
/this will record both tracks still but put them on separate MONO tracks as long as this drop down is selected

I have an Creative Audigy RX/5 internal sound card the left and right channels of the mixer go into the line in on the sound card. The main thing is that the VU meters show the same levels for both channels in powertracks when recording but when the take is saved the right channel is louder than the left, As you can see in the attached file above. I will try the two mono track approach and see if the results are different.

does the cable go into a "Y" or into a mini plug? are you absolutely sure the end going in is also stereo? I know silly questions but these things have tripped me up a time or two.

JAOM is giving sound (no pun intended, well maybe) advice on interfaces. A solid interface changed my life as far as recording goes. I have two now an older Presonus 8 channel and a new USB presonus stereo unit to haul around with my laptop. I think i bought it on sale for like $80 super cool deal.
