In the Edit Mode I can cut copy move resize the drum sections, but to build the drum track I want I need to be able to copy section to another track, it doesn't seem to allow this how it is now. If I go by the RealDrum txt it will tell me what pattern is at what bar number, if the section showed the file name and bar number it would help to find the section you want.

Mcity.

my opinion is much as the new bb tracks view is a great idea conceptually rb tracks view slays imho for all sorts of editing and tricks and comping to finals.

ie more flexibility. just one example is i can comp to a final track from various takes of say a drum or vocal or other track easily in rb.

i'm sure there are two groups of bb users...
one group wanting more daw like editing flexibility in bb and others maybe not.
ie,various opinions. i'm in the former group.

frankly i find rb way way ahead.
ive tried mightily to find ways to enjoy editing tracks in bb but my opinion is new bb tracks view needs more work re ease of editing of both audio and midi.

i have it all in rb...more tracks for comping, more tracks to generate pg content on and the biggie for me is in rb i can see all tracks and edit in context say one track versus the others.
whearas in bb much when it comes to audio and midi editing rb tracks view is superior
and easier to use.
for example if i'm useing bb audio editor i can only see one track at a time in bb....so i cant edit in context re all other tracks.
so often i use bb as a quickie scratch pad for ideas then off to rb i go and import the bb song scratch file and go on from there.

happiness.

"frankly i find rb way way ahead." coals to Newcastle, yes it has got a lot of features as I spent years trying to improve it
Here's the dilemma:
I have this file Biab file Demo-all-mixer-tracks-255-bars-Biab-frozen.sgu = 1.2meg
If I open it in RB it has 1.3gig of wav files and takes a long time to generate, RB can have more than 255 bars and more than 24 tracks, how many gig will that be ? and every edit creates a new wav file
If I open it in Reaper it opens instantly using flac files and saves as a 2meg project, I can edit all day long without it creating new wav files from the edits
The Plugin is great but at the moment it won't open frozen SGU or flac

I have 30gig free space left on my hard drive. You can post some ideas here Going Off Half Cocked Into The Future or On Target ? to best solve this dilemma with these products both for Win & Mac users

I noticed RealBand 2025 has new options to hide unused tracks and to hide toolbars not needed. These are the kind of UI improvements I have been waiting for. I have never used RealBand before because the UI really turns me off the way it opens with a multitude of tiny track layers. When I open a BIAB song, I want to see audio waveforms much taller than what normally comes up in RealBand. The same is true with midi tracks. Is there a way to set the default track height higher than where it is presently set?

assuming your talking rb....
are you saying you want a default template that you set up ? please detail further.
how tall do you want each track ?
and how many tracks do you want on the screen at once.
maybe rough out a pic and post it ?
not sure what you want.

for example i just set a few tracks as tall and saved as a template.

happiness.

ps macity. i'll have to answer another time...grubs up here...lol.
re your points thats a why in rb i map out a song useing a midi template till i have song finally arranged so i dont have lots of wav gens.
i mention in tips how i work to save me typing oodles.
mind you my songs are no more than 30 to 40 tracks cos i agree with an AE i once met ie 'you should be able to do a song in 30 to 40 tracks...martin/beatwells had way way less when they started out'.
all my songs in my sig only had around 30 tracks...
now whether they are any good i'll others to judge...lol.
frankly i'm useing reaps less these days.

Yes, I am talking about Realband. I'd like to load a BIAB song file with 7 - 8 realtracks and see larger waveforms in the track view than the default. These tracks would fill the screen area on a 1440p monitor. There is a way to make a template to achieve this? How? Thanks for responding.

its easier if you layout your song arrange in rb.
heres what i did...i did it all in rb.

1..set the track heights i wanted.
2..laid out my chords in chord sheet.
3..genned the rd/rd session musos.
4..saved as whatever song name i wanted.
eg 'rock the new year'...lol.

then carry on working in rb saveing every now and then.
when finished exit rb make a cuppa tea...lol.
after tea break...

5..boot up rb then...
6..under FILE (top menu) youll see your latest song...in this case 'rock the new year.seq'.
opening the seq will set the desired track heights.
actually how i name songs are eg...
ROCK+THE+NEW+YEAR.seq.

now if initially you set your track heights and you only need do this ONCE for all songs your doing.
with blank tracks set track heights and save as
JHG+TEMPLATE.seq
THEN...
when you start a new song eg lets say the songs called
'beagles serenade' then just load the JHG+TEMPLATE.seq and your track heights will automaticaly display...then save the song as BEAGLES+SERENADE.seq
see ? in summary each time you start a new song just load the jhg template and your needed track heights will already set...et voila.

ie you dont HAVE TO use bb. you can do it all in rb.

the only idea is IF you MUST use bb you will need to import the bb song THEN set the track
heights and save as seq once and go on from there for each song imported.

is there a reason you MUST use bb ?

thats all i got .
just experiment.

happiness.

Justanoldmuso:

I arrange songs in BIAB and load them into RealBand. I see I can drag a track to the height I want, but half of the track underneath the audio waveforms is wasted blank space. There is nothing in preferences to turn that behavior off and just get the waveforms filling the track height. Unless there is a way and I am not seeing it.

i dont know what you mean re wasted space.
best idea is to post a pic of how you want it.
the issue is when importing from bb it resets to default even tho one has the track heights set...
whereas if you lay out the song in rb all seems fine.

i would also talk to pg support.

only other option and youll have to do this for each bb import is after import set the tracks the way you want and save the song.
youll have to do this once per song.

answer me this what do you need in bb you cant get in rb ??

also you might want to post a wish in rb wishlist.
the problem for developers...and ive been one...is if the dev implemented all diverse user wishes that the exe would balloon.
so choices are made. cant keep everyone happy

thats all i got.

MP.

gotcha...but if you notice the area to the right of track labels ...
ie green line is for adding automation points under waveform. i can get it nice and big here.
however its a fair point that the area under the track labels is empty space...however...this might be reserved for future features.
we used to do this all the time industry.
with respect mp your 'wasted space here' is too wide because thats the automation area.
the width needs to be reduced to the width of the
track info on left hand side.

you can also double click on the waveform as an option.

please post a pic how you would like it.
for the dev....or in wishes.

but note...the reason why some daws have big exe's is user flexibility re manipulation the display a ton of ways to sunday and other feature flexibilities.
its always tradeoffs eh ?

in summary the dev cant win because what one user might want another might want a different way. ie a zillion different user preferences.

in industry if we had catered in an app for an app
to be configged a zillion different ways it would have been a coding maintenance nightmare and tearing our hair out.

there are often no good solutions.
some user somewhere is gonna be teed off irrespective of what the dev does.

happiness

You should be able zoom track height with drag or zoom them all with ctrl+mouse wheel and it not show the automation lane unless you click the little arrow

You said,
"zoom them all with ctrl+mouse wheel and it not show the automation lane unless you click the little arrow"
Yes, ctrl+mouse wheel while clicking on a audio waveform is ideal for zooming them all. That is, until at a certain point, the automation lanes open up and you have all that wasted space under the waveforms. There is no option to turn off the automation lanes so waveforms can get much bigger. (Also midi notes) This is an item for the wishlist.

yep its a item for the wish list.

i can remember hilarious stuff re graphics and the ui years ago on reaper forums.

'i want reaps to look like pro tools'
'i want it to look like cubase' etc
or whatever daw.
and so it goes....lol.

ideally all screen displays would totally be configurable in any way any user wants.
but its a nightmare for a developer.
been there done that....and at the end of it all
there is always a user who says 'my way or the highway'.

i can remember a senior veep in an org i worked in once wanting all screens to be different from everyone else. a costly endevour of course which he realised once he saw the potential bill.

bottom line ask a thousand users re 'how they want an apps look and feel' and a dev gets a ton of different opinions.

lol....when i tried that with a group of users it was like a huge battle royal erupted....dont even get me started re user keyboard shortcuts....battle royals tween user groups once again.
i just couldnt get them to agree or sign off on a specification.

c'est la vie.

have a wonderfull new year everyone and happiness always.

jhg.

ok tell me if this solution floats your boat.

here are the steps...

1..do your work as you would normally in bb.
genning pg content etc.
2..keeping the bb tracks view open.
save song as music xml.
3..open rb. so NOW you have both bb and rb open.
4..load up a song template into rb youve previously saved with your track heights etc set the way you want.
5..now in rb import the music xml file and youll see the bb chords in rb chords view.
6..from bb tracks view drag each track into its own rb track.
7..then youll see the waveform for each bb track now in rb.
8..now save the rb song as your song name whatever it is as a seq.
9..now you can continue working in rb or
generate tracks in bb or rb.
10..A BIG NOTE...so you dont lose tracks somewhere.
ENSURE that bb and rb share the same song dir.
eg if a song is called 'LETS ALL ROCK'. done in december 2024.
set up a dir >>>LETS+ALL+ROCK+DEC2024...
and this is the folder all rb and bb tracks and song saves will go into. otherwise if you dont do this youll be hunting around on a drive.
ps..note various options in the dialogs for bb export xml
and rb import xml. so experiment with them.
i just went with defaults here. but experiment etc.

et voila...now tell me if any probs and if it floats your boat.
i tested the above here.

happiness.

4. "... previously saved with your track heights etc set the way you want."

Like I said, I can't get the track height the way I want. As I drag it downward, the waveform gets a little thicker until suddenly, the automation lane opens up (which I call wasted space) and the waveform is skinny again. I am having a much better result dragging BIAB tracks into Studio One. Thanks for your efforts and let's see what they come up with for RealBand 2026.

[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]Also if you hold the CTRL key and scroll the mouse wheel in the tracks area it will expand all the tracks just like MCity did with Reaper let go and scroll it lengthens them hold CTRL and the height is adjusted. Easy peasy exactly what you wanted no waiting for 2026

Rob.

excellent graphic.

frankly i'm confused on the topic.
see that empty space on left of waveforms ?
i thought this was also an op issue as track heights are increased.
i must be going silly as i age...lol.

here in reaps same thing...as i make waveform height larger....
in reaps wasted space on left.

frankly it would help us vision impaired people if the track info on left of a track got bigger also as track height is increased. sometimes in both reaps and rb i often am 'squinting'. in fact recently testing lots of different daws viz rb i found myself squinting at various times.

eg...in reaps i find myself squinting with other things like automation....i find all the time squinting and putting in automation i might as well have achieved same by editing.

entering automation points in any daw drive me nuts and i never seem to get it right.

i also am confused why the op isnt useing rb and then dropping tracks into S1 if wished...
because rb has many features not in bb....plus i like the rb track audio/midi editing better.

another thing i'm missing is if one imports a bb song into rb tracks assume their default...hence the template/xml alternative because this seemed to be an issue for the op.
Rob do you have a way to solve this ?...
other than my xml/template idea ?
obviously a workaround.

once again Rob great stuff.

happiness
