I think I read a while back that you have to buy powertracks to get the vocal harmonizer, is that true or do I have it with my ultrapak, in the Biab manual it mentions it and how to use it but I haven't got that far yet. Thanks

Hi critter,
You need to buy Powertracks to get TC-Helicon in RB.

When you run TC Helicon in RB, you will find it under "Track" and is called "Apply audio (vocal) harmony (using Powertracks)".

Make sure that you purchase PT12 and not an earlier version.
Good idea to buy direct from the pgmusic sales website as there are dealers out there with older versions and still trying to peddle them.
The harmony thing only works when you have PT12 isntalled AFAIK.

To run TC Helicon in RB, you must have Powertracks 12 with build 12 patch applied. You can't just use any version of PowerTracks. Of course, if you are purchasing it now, that's what you should get.
Of course, BIAB does include the harmonizer, but you just won't get the granularity that you would within RealBand. But it works. And you can save the harmony as separate files for importation into RealBand. It's definitely easier, though, to do it all from within RealBand.

Could you please explain what you mean by "granularity"? Resolution?
Thanks, Dee

With RealBand (or PowerTracks), the harmonizer can do it's magic over select bars, so it is granular down to the bar (if you select half a bar, it will still harmonize the whole bar, although you can cut out the stuff you don't want afterwards).
BIAB can do the whole song of part of a song. Actually, since I didn't try it, I'm not sure if it can do "multiple parts" of the song. If I get a chance, I'll try that. In which case, then yes, it can be granular to one bar (granular used to indicate the smallest unit of measure you can do).
Also, in RealBand, you can apply the harmonizer to any audio track. The same is true for BIAB, except that there is only one track, so that's the only one you can apply harmony to. If you used BIAB, you'd have to record a base audio track (maybe a male vocal), apply the harmonizer, and then bring the files into RB. Then, go back to BIAB, record another base audio track (maybe a female vocal), apply the harmonizer, and then bring the files into RB. If there were any problems, you would have to go back to BIAB to fix them. So, while doable in BIAB, it's more work; much easier directly in RealBand or PowerTracks. For that extra work, I'd spend the $49 to get PowerTracks (or $29 if you have a previous version of PowerTracks to upgrade). While TC-Helicon is not perfect, I don't think you'll find a cheaper harmonizer anywhere (other than singing or playing it yourself).

Critter,
You also have the TC Helicon in Biab. When you go to generate your harmony parts in Biab, select "separate wave files" and it will put each harmony part in its own wave file. You can then load them into RB to add FX etc...

Critter,
I bought PT so that I could use TC Helicon in RB because that is where I record my vocals. It just seemed easier to me and PT wasn't expensive.

Sounds like the right thing to do. Does PT incorporate itself in RB or do you have to assign things to make it work? I am assuming I can just download online and if so can I save to cd for future reloads, in case of a crash or something. Thanks

Install PT and TC Helicon will appear in RB. As I said in the above post, you will find it in RB under Track and is called Apply audio (vocal) harmony (using Powertracks). You will not see the h logo in RB that you see in PT and BIAB.

There is a dialog box where you tell RB where PT is installed. Once that's done, TC-Helicon works the same in both RB and PT. I think all it is doing is running the DLL from the PT folder. My understanding is that it is a licensing issue.
