Jim is correct. The only way to achieve that now is to open the BiaB song in a DAW and do your recording there. I have Studio One Pro 7 and I know this works there. If you have a Windows system you have RealBand, a DAW that will open BiaB song natively, thus you do not have to drag and drop. I don't use RealBand so I am assuming it will work there also; others will have to comment on that.
I don't record in BiaB but I see how it can be useful for those who do so if you put it on the wishlist I will give it a +1.
{edit} - Maybe a work around would be to repeat the count-in on measures 1 and 2 via the drum fills, record your part(s), then have no count-in selected for your song. It might be worth trying if you want to record in BiaB.

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
Moving your BiaB tracks to a DAW and recording there would be my recommendation. That's what most of us do. BiaB is EXCELLENT at exporting tracks for that purpose.
BiaB development has not (to date) been focused on providing full DAW functionality. I don't expect this to change in the next 30 years either.
You may want to look at RealBand, PGMusic's more DAW-like product, which is free with BiaB. I don't use it, but there are some folks here that are very happy with using it to record. There is a separate RealBand sub-forum where they hang out.
Good luck!

BIAB is not a DAW. Its an auto accompaniment program RB the sister program provides the functionality you want. That's why the two work so well together. And as Matt suggests no one has thought it necessary to ask before. It is easy to get what you want with RB or any other DAW

That BIAB is not a DAW is true but it's never been necessary and isn't necessary today. BIAB's DAW functionality is primarily achieved by user programming tools and features rather than user manual manipulation of exported tracks.
This feature isn't a Wishlist item but rather a video tutorial request with a lot of Plus-One's to get PG Staff's attention. BIAB can do this and the capability has been there for years.
I'm a bit lost, Charlie. The O/P was requesting for a count-in to perform punch in recording elsewhere than the start of the song. Other users replied that the feature was not available. Then there is a statement:

BIAB can do this and the capability has been there for years.
Is that suggesting that this feature is actually available?

Yes, count-in feature is available as a click track for recordings including punch-in's. Offline someone suggested the OP means a verbal count-in for a punch-in. Not sure if that's the case. I've recorded in home studios and commercial studios since the late 1960's/70's and don't recall ever having seen that method used where it's verbally 1,2, 3, punch beyond the start of a Punch-in recording, I tested punch-in before posting but I also normally use a click track when I record or punch-in and that is definitely available and there are metronome/click styles with date codes of 2007.
If a verbal count-in is what the OP is requesting, that's a simple process of recording 1,2,3,4 and inserting on another track and monitor the count prior to recording the punch-in. BIAB's Audio Record button has punch-in settings. Newer versions of BIAB also have input monitoring and a very versatile quick mix/master option for the Master Track that allows to 'audition' mixes and masters and either discard or save them.

I’ve recorded in commercial studios. I prefer to hear a roll-back of the track, then I play at the punch-in point (or even play along before, if I like). I’ve never used a count-in as a cue to the punch-in point. I respect the request if someone wants one, but wonder how practical it is, since punch-ins don’t always occur right on beat one.
