Hi,
We have a free patch update for Band-in-a-Box 2010.

It adds new features, more documentation, and fixes.

It also adds a new softsynth - the Coyote Wavetable. This Coyote Wavetable works on 64 bit Windows (unlike the Roland VSC Dxi), so it is primarily intended for people who are using 64 bit Windows. the Coyote Wavetable uses the same sounds as the MS GS Wavetable synth (ie the GM.DLS that ships with Windows). The VSC DXi, Forte or Roland Hypercanvas synths have more sounds, and better sound sets, so they are recommended if you have them. But if you don't, you should use the Coyote Wavetable, as it uses the same sounds as the MS GS Wavetable, but is a DXi plugin, and works with BB for rendering, and Drag n Drop etc.

Band-in-a-Box Version 2010 Build 297 Update (17 MB)

This patch will update Band-in-a-Box to Version 2010 Build 297 from any previous Band-in-a-Box 2010 build. The update must be installed into your existing Band-in-a-Box 2010 folder.

It will also optionally install the Coyote WaveTable, which is a DXi synth that can be used on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows. This is primarily intended for 64-bit Windows Vista and 7 users who are unable to use the Roland VSC-DXi, since the VSC is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows. To use the Coyote synth, click 'Use DXi/VST synth" in the MIDI Driver Setup, and select "CoyoteWT" in the DirectX/VST window.

Note: If you are updating a hard drive edition of Band-in-a-Box, be sure to select the correct destination directory - either X:\bb (where X is your USB drive letter) or X:\PGMusic\Programs\bb if the hard drive was purchased prior to September 2009.

Summary of Changes for Build 297 (March 25 2010)

Added: Coyote WaveTable synth has been added. This is primarily intended for 64-bit Windows users who are unable to use the Roland VSC-DXi, since the VSC is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows.
- RealTracks picker not displaying "Ev" Even for some realtracks.
Improved: More descriptive info provided when Tempo swaps of RealTracks available, now lists the current and proposed tempo swap e.g. Bass 110->85.
- Drum track wasn't green when it was a RealTrack.
- Drag n Drop not working for Soloist Generated track.
- Dragged Frozen RealTracks with RealChart was dragging as MIDI.
- RealDrums with multiple substyles weren't saving in frozen state.
- Fiz sound in bar 3 of drums fixed.
- Frozen tracks can now have volume changes applied to them (mute etc.) by F5 dialog (realtracks only)
- Volume changes (e.g. F5 dialog - mute at certain bars) were not working for generated soloists.
- If soloist was generated on a blank song, the song wouldn't generate, just the solo would play.
- Ending chord can now have a hold on it, with or without a 2-bar ending.
Added: Message if you try to make a tag on one chorus. Tags are meant to work on songs with more than 1 chorus.
- Some patch changes were showing up on some RealCharts (eg 371).
- Drum pushes/shots leaking through during F5 mute.
- Mutes on RealTracks with time signature changes not working correctly.
- Some endings weren't playing if riffs overlapped previous one
- Generate RealTracks button not working if launched from the RealTracks button (this generates the currently selected track on the radio buttons).
- Some styles with silent drums made a sound on the HyperCanvas (drum velocity of 1 removed).
- Chord Screen would go blank with DoubleTime/HalfTime generation sometimes.
- Generate Single Track of RealTracks would generate it twice with halfTime/Double Time tracks.
- Some Bluesy realTracks (like 751) weren't playing bluesy.
Updated: Band-in-a-Box 2010 PDF manual.

Build 296 was a limited release, primarily for international (non English) versions of Band-in-a-Box

Added previously in build 295
Improved: TempoSwapping Improved:
- There is an additional option to replace the current RealTracks selections with similar ones that would work better at the current tempo. This is an option available by pressing the Realtracks Toolbar button- Select Better RealTracks.
- Yellow Message now appears if RealTracks are selected, but better RealTracks are available for the current tempo. (this message can be disabled in Prefs-RealTracks)
- RealTracks button on the toolbar now shows a menu, RealTracks picker, RealTracks Prefs, and Select Better RealTracks for this tempo.

Changed: Half Time/ Double Time changed
- The option to automatically half/double time realtrack has been removed, and replaced with a manual option, so the user has control over when/how Realtracks would be halfTimed/Double timed. The previous method of "automatic half/double time" of RealTracks caused some problems, because people wouldn't know when the RealTracks were going to be half/double timed.
To do this, visit the RealTracks assign Dialog, and use the new comboBox called "TimeBase", and set that to Normal (Default) / Half-Time / Double-Time.

Improved: Drag Drop improved.
- The feature to Drag and Drop tracks from BB to DAW sequencers has been improved. Some DAWs (Ableton, Nuendo) don't yet support direct drag/drop of tracks that aren't generated yet. So a DragDrop panel has been added to the top left of the screen. This allows you to Drag n Drop to these sequencers in 2-steps. First drag to the DragDrop panel, then when it turns green, drag/drop from the panel to your AW (Ableton, Nuendo). Note that for other sequencers (RealBand, Sonar) and Windows Explorer, you can still DragDrop directly from the track to the DAW in 1-step.

Fixed: Edit - Undo. In certain situations after a delete chord command, edit-undo stopped working.

Fixed: Nashville Notation - can now enter 'flat 3', flat 6 etc. chords - type 3bm7 for Flat 3 minor 7th.

Have Fun!

Small point, but the "click here" links in the post, relating to real tracks and reals drums don't appear to be hyperlinks.

Wow, did I understand that correctly? The Real Tracks that were frozen and then dropped into a DAW will actually sound as intended and not a MIDI impersonation? That is awesome if it is true! I have had some trumpet parts that I would love to carry over.

?

RealTracks have *always* been that way, they do not create a "MIDI impersonation" at all.

Bob is right.

Buried in the middle of the list of changes is this little gem: - Ending chord can now have a hold on it, with or without a 2-bar ending.

I posted this same info and then deleted the post because I wasn't certain how much of the improved endings (and they are improved) were from the program update, and how much were from the changes to the RealTracks that we worked on in beta testing that haven't been released. PG Music has already stated a new patch for RealTracks is in the works, so I'm not revealing anything confidential here, but I wonder if PG Music could comment please? Like Bob, I want to help promote this update, but not oversell it in case something else is required to make those new better endings work.

Just so I understand....

If you've already purchase the Coyote ForteDXi package, then there's no reason to use the new CoyoteWT"? That's for 64-bit owners who haven't purchased and installed the full package?

Yeah, that's the situation. Sort of. The CoyoteWT is for 64-bit owners because the VSC doesn't work in the 64 bit operating system environment. That's regardless of whether or not they've purchased a "full package" or whatever. Besides, I think that the VSC ships with every installation anyway. Now I think you would get the option to install both or either with a new package purchase.

To avoid confusion, let me point out now that the CoyoteWT also works with any of the 32 bit systems as well, although I think one would have more sound options and patches using the VSC in that situation.

Except we don't really "purchase" either of them, they are added to the program package. Originally, I think the VSC ws put in there so that everyone purchasing BiaB could have a MIDI synth to use if they had nothing else.

LadyJazzer, that's correct. As I understand it, you would NOT want to uninstall your existing Coyote Forte and replace it with this new one. Peter Gannon said in another post that the quality of the existing Coyote Forte is better. This new one is just so something will work in a 64-bit Windows where the VSC does not. The new Coyote WT does not use the same sounds as the existing Coyote Forte.

I'll try to find Peter's post and link to it.

EDIT. Here it is: http://www.pgmusic.com/ubbthreads/showfl...true#Post269510

Well, you don't have to uninstall one Coyote to install the other.

You can install both and then just select which one afterwards.

Audition them both, see what you like, etc.

Thanks for the info... I'm pretty happy with the full ForteDXi package, and I just didn't know if this new WT version had any advantages over what I already have installed.
