1) since the demos feature mp3 quality audio...how good are the actual wav files that are included w/ the program...???

They aren't mp3 format, they are .wma. Potato, pahtahto, they sound excellent, I have been using them for professional work since the onset and find no need for the "audiophile" version here at all. YMMV

Quote:

2) are they 16 or 24-bit ?

16 bit, 44.1KHz sampling. Clean and adequate.

Quote:

3) are they clean or noisy ? (meaning, how low is the noise floor; & is there ambient & gear/mechanical noise?)

They are excellently done studio recordings. Occasionally there have been a few cases of a background noise here and there and PGMusic has issued updates to fix those few problems as spotted.

Quote:

4) are the end products (what biab writes as a file) masterable? i.e., can they undergo eq/fx/signal processing in a daw & be raised to industry standard levels without degrading. i.e.2, can you make a real record out of them?

Most assuredly. Do it all the time. However, I've found that the majority of RealTracks need very little "massaging" in the way of plugins, etc. except in the few cases of doing something out of the ordinary.

Dox, it's obvious from this post you're not a noob at this so here's a more pro level suggestion for you. Forget Biab but upgrade so you can get Real Band. RB is a hybrid of PG's long time sequencer Power Tracks and Biab. I'm not going to post a whole description of RB, you can do a forum search for my username and you will find lots of posts over the last 6 weeks or so where I've gone into detail about it plus you can jump over to the RB forum and read all about it.
The exact point as it relates to your situation is this: You want to create a piano track to go with what you've already laid down. In Biab you can select a style, pick a RT or midi piano part and generate the tune but you have to do the whole tune and it get's very confusing after a while trying to remember which version might work out the best. In RB you have 48 tracks, it's a standard DAW in that all your NI plugs work plus it will generate Biab parts both RT and midi but the really cool part is you can generate your piano part using a single track at a time and everything else stays as is. This means you set up the chord grid, put in your part markers and generate a RT piano part. Then click on the next empty track and do it again but you could change the style, put in some chord subs, change the part markers. Even if you used the same RT you will get a different part. Then do it yet again on another empty track, this time try a midi piano part with a different style using your NI piano. See where I'm going with this? RB will only generate one track at a time if that's what you want. You can create many separate tracks using different RT's, different midi styles, chords, part markers all to give you a ton of choices in order to start cutting, pasting, creating loops all that stuff in order to make one good piano track out of all those test tracks. RB is a full fledged audio/midi editor. I normally use Adobe Audition for wave editing but during the RB beta testing I stuck to RB just to see if it really can do the same job Audition can and it does, it's just the workflow is different but the functionality is all there.
I've done this sort of thing using both RT's and midi guitars and Real Drums plus midi drums using my Jamstix kits. When you mix these together and you have a good sample for the midi, it can sound very good if you're a decent engineer.

Mac...

thanks.

Bob...

thanks.

Based on what Mac said about BiaB using *.wma's...(unless one upgrades to the 'Audiophile' edition...to get *.wav files)...which I just cannot afford at this time...& based upon what Bob has said about Real Band...RB may be the way to go for me.

Q's: Bob, you said that RB generates BiaB parts; & that the user sets up the chord grid.

1) will it (RB) generate an entire song (like BiaB) IF one wants it to...??? [1B) does the chord grid look & function like BiaB...???]

2) does it use real *.wav files...???

3) does it include all the BiaB styles & RT's to date...???

(going to check out the demo, now)

thanks again,

dox

UPDATE: Real Band is part of BiaB?...not understanding this...Bob, your post kind of gave the impression it was separate?

UPDATE2: never mind...re-read your 2nd sentence..."upgrade so you get RB". can't do it, right now. thanks all, for all the help.

Dox, RB is available as a separate purchase it's just if you upgrade to any of the higher level packages it's included. Yes, RB gives you the option to use the first 8 tracks as Biab only tracks so it will generate a complete Biab arrangement if you want. In fact you can start there or just open up an existing Biab song and RB automatically puts the tracks on top and you can still use the other 40 tracks as I described without changing the original but you can have it regenerate everything if you want. This item constantly confuses noobs to RB because some don't want any Biab tracks and the question is how do I convert those tracks to regular sequence ones and the answer is there's a checkbox in the file menu.
As for the styles and RT/RD's, RB will access whatever you have just like Biab will. If you have all of PG's styles and several hundred third party styles, RB can use them all.
Don't get hung up on the quality of the wav's. Mac said it perfectly and you don't know him but he's a working studio pro and our resident expert, you can believe what he says. In fact you should visit his "Audiominds" website, lots of good stuff there. He has the wma version as do I and the audio quality is pristine. Some who have the audiophile version say there's a difference and good for them, most of us can't hear it expecially in a mix but even solo'd they sound great. These tracks are as pro as you can get from the studio equipment and engineers used to the musicians.

Well this certainly explains you initial question .

You have got to hear some of the piano RT's and you will then understand why you got so many responses asking you to clarify what you are talking about....
