Question: I was under the impression that PCI had better delay performance than USBs, even when using ASIO. The reason, I recall was because of the PC's process scheme of the USB I/o process v.s. the PCI bus input. This is not or no longer true?

To try to answer your question directly, "It is no longer true for many of today's motherboards but you still may encounter a situation where a mfr has implemented the older methodology.

USB 2.0 works a lot better than the older USB 1.1 for this purpose.

However, a LOT of motherboards, for both desktop and laptop, still come equipped with most of the USB ports being USB 1.1 - and often have only ONE USB port that is actually USB 2.0.

So you have to find the right USB port to plug in your audio device, and once found, you must always plug it into that port for the good results to happen.

Taking a look at your IRQ table may be able to sort that out fast, depending.

The dirty little secret is that USB ports ARE on the PCI buss.

PCI is often better, more dependable than USB. That quote you used wasn't meant to say USB is better. It is more universal is all.

Have to make sure you can get PCI availabe. Some systems come with one PCI and two PCIe, etc. Laptops have none.
I was seeing less and less PCI slots available at the time, but they are out there...

Firewire has things to watch out for also. TI chipset for one..

Great Nfo Bob,
I'm going to follow-up & look at all 3 devices. My future 1212M/0202 replacement may very well be among them. Of Course, either of the Mixers would be an upgrade from my current adapter/PCI-interface.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

If my MoBo's (ASUS M2N4-Sli) user manual is correct, I have "3 x " Internal Connectors " USB " for up to 6 additional "USB 2.0" ports. I'll take a look to see if there is a cabling/access issue & check if I have a free PCI slot for a Firewire Controller should I go that way.

Thanks again.
-Mo

If going firewire, get TI (Texas Instruments) for best results with a lot of device manufacturers like the mentioned Mackie.

PG staff just said in another thread that Fast Track with ASIO has known issues with BiaB (not sure if it applies to PT or not). Might be worth a quick inquiry..
