The surveillance world just got a little bit stronger.

Required watermarking starts Aug 1, just a few weeks away, in the EU. All AI generated music is required to have easily identified watermarks in the music under penalty of law.

But that's not the point of this post. To this point in time , only music, or mostly the music, was being scrutinized. Now, however, there's a new tool that can backwards engineer the lyrics to determine the exact song that the AI trained on when it put your lyrics together. This is a huge step forward.
Kinda like my dog.... You can hide it, but yeah, she's still gonna find it. This is a game changer in AI detection. The irony is of course that this detection is itself, AI. I don't know how many false positives it will throw, so I'm not discussing that side of this. I'm sure it will flag human content in the early stages. How many writers "borrow" ideas and lines from other songs? I dare say that would be a fairly large number of writers even if it's unintentional. No doubt, it will get better, rather quickly, given time.

Interesting times for sure.

She knows this subject extremely well which is great as she is a music attorney. I found the most disturbing stat was that 39% of all streaming uploads were AI l generated. I guess we should do a song called "Where Have All the Musicians Gone"!

That won't work unless they (whoever "they" are) can determine with certainty whether the song lyrics were written by humans.
Love songs alone are enough to break that.
A simple example:
I write a song whose entire lyrics consist solely of "I love you".
I came up with this innovative idea myself because I looked at my wife, thought "I love you", and decided to write a song about it.
But after those three words, I ran out of ideas.
An AI like the one described above MUST find a gazillion songs that were used to train the lyrics AI I allegedly used.

I must admit that I haven't had time to watch the video, but....

Maybe they haven't thought this through. I imagine the watermark will be very high frequency, so as not to interfere with the audible track - it should be easy enough to filter this out and re-digitise. For other forms of watermark, I'm guessing that recording to a (lossy) low bitrate MP3 would do the job nicely. Others will surely find more ways.

Edit-
What ever the watermark, how long will it be before you can download an ai program to strip it out? Also, if a watermark screams out ai, then a piece without a watermark suddenly becomes legitimised, confirmed as real performers, and copyright-capable.

Good news for sure. But sort of seems like a dog chasing its tail: Pretty sure AI will find a way to defeat AI detection by...AI.

This hurts my head...

Brings to mind Rod Stewart's "Have I Told You Lately" and Hank Williams Sr's "Have I Told You Lately". The first time I heard Rod Stewart start to sing it I could have sworn it was going to be a re-cut of Hank's song.

Found this on AI:

Summary

AI tools are increasingly capable of evading detection mechanisms. As generative AI technologies advance, they often outpace the capabilities of AI detection tools designed to identify AI-generated content. This creates a challenging landscape in education and other fields where authenticity is crucial.

Detection Challenges

Many AI detectors struggle with accuracy, often misclassifying human-written text as AI-generated.
The effectiveness of these tools varies significantly, with some achieving detection rates as high as 96%, but still facing issues with false positives.

Arms Race in Academia

The rise of user-friendly AI models like ChatGPT has led to an ongoing arms race between students using AI and educators trying to detect it.
This dynamic raises questions about the fairness and reliability of detection methods, as they may not perform well under real-world conditions.

Implications for Authenticity

As AI tools improve, the reliance on detection mechanisms may undermine the integrity of assessments and evaluations in educational settings.
Authentic human writing remains a critical asset in maintaining credibility and originality.

Since some of my human songs were classified as AI and some of my AI songs were classified as human, I finally decided to give a shіt about that and let the AIs and the AI-detection AIs work it out among themselves.
In the meantime, I'm writing music...

What if I said:

Whiskey shot
Damn girl you're hot
Going to take a hit
Just a little nip
Mud flap lift kit girl you know I'm loving it
Heartbreaker money maker
Tight jeans
Hot dreams
Shake a butt
Get a cut
On country
Country radio
On country
Country radio
Hell yeah

Would AI picked that up instantly as an AI song or would it flag it even more dangerously as a David Snyder song????

I think that is the real question we should be asking ourselves here.

One will get you thrown in jail.

The other one will get you remembered for the rest of time.

Careful, Mr. Snyder.
Your lyrics bear a dangerous resemblance to a bro-country song I’m currently writing.
You’ll end up in jail, and I’ll be the one people remember for the rest of time.
(Honestly, I’d be embarrassed for the rest of my life, if not longer, for the lyrics I've written.
I guess even ChatGPT would be ashamed for the rest of its life, or until its next update, whichever comes first).

Brian,

Several weeks ago I turned in a business document that I had written completely by myself and also a chapter of a novel that I'm polishing that I wrote entirely by myself.

I can't remember which one of the AI checkers it was I used to check them just out of curiosity because I have all of them, it may have been Pangram I'm not sure.

But anyway in both instances they were flagged for AI use.

I showed both of them to ChatGPT and asked why I had been accused of using AI.

ChatGPT said it knew exactly why because it is an AI master of pattern recognition and recursive loops.

It said both of them came across as being too polished and too well written to be have been written by a human being.

I'm not kidding.

It also said that unfortunately you have to throw in some misspellings and some bad grammar and misplaced modifiers from time to time and make a couple of incoherent statements if the AI checkers are going to leave you alone.

Seriously.

😂😂😂😂

It's gone too far. All this AI stuff is completely b******* and way out of control. I'm not living in the shadow of the AI Gestapo. I love ChatGPT as a research assistant don't get me wrong, but I'm so sick of hearing about AI this and AI that every single stinking day. And can someone please push a button and just make SUNO disappear I would be eternally grateful. I don't ever want to hear another SUNO song as long as I live.

So there. There's my little rant. I feel better now.

I find this very interesting. So if you have mastered the English language and write a novel AI flags it? WTF (for the ladies that is Why The Face)! I would think that most old school novelists would also be flagged. AI must think that most of today's high-schoolers are brilliant!

PS - I doesn't had two wurry about AI?

Thanks for clarifying the correct meaning of the three letter acronym Mario.

I have been interpreting incorrectly for years. I always thought it stood for "What's That For?".

Now I finally know grin
