Hi all. For this I used BIAB for cello and two of the three guitars. Again I've used key-matched vocal phrases from Mimi Page's Light & Shadow Kontakt library. I'd be grateful to know what any listeners play this back through, and whether the mix works. (Ideally you will be wearing my headphones, playing back though my DAW, sitting on my sofa wink ) I might make a video for this later . Wistful Waltz

Gosh I wish I could figure out how to make the Soundcloud image render here.

By the way - not that I'm bothered - but how long do I remain an Apprentice? I have authentic grey stubble after all....

Hi Ken!
This is lovely! I noticed you had some descriptors on Soundcloud (wistful, bittersweet etc) and I wholeheartedly agree. It’s short at just over 2 minutes, but that means I’m going back for a second listen.

Regarding your forum status, the Forum FAQ page has a topic on this, and apparently, you will become ‘Journeyman’ once you hit 300 posts.

Wistful indeed, Ken! Great job with the vocal phrases, they sound super. Nice composition and well mixed. Sounds quite nice through my studio monitors: Very clear with a good stereo image.

A lot of us have grey stubble, or worse, so welcome to the club!

I have a Sennheiser 600, a HiFiMan Sundara, and a JDS Labs Atom 2 Headphone Amp and your waltz sounded incredible through my system! Really enjoyed the choices you made with the mix! I do think that Kontakt vocal you're using is a bit limiting, and I'd encourage you to try Synthesizer V by Dreamtonics. Some folks on here get incredible mileage out of it. Suno may also be an option.

Hi Ken,

This is terrific, as others have said beautiful. I could listen to this sort of refreshing, clear music all day long. Loved Mimi's vocal interpretation. Only downside, it's over too soon. Going back for a third listen... i'm going to get six minutes worth out of it at least!! .....and it's going on my favourite playlist too.

Keep 'em coming Ken, you've won me over. Kind regards

Thanks Andrew! Getting someone to listen once is hard enough ... twice is extra nice!

Thanks Ron! Glad it works well on nice monitors. Mine have been in storage for a while so I've mixed and mastered using decent headphones and software to supposedly correct for its biases. Kind of tough as one has no idea what others will play something back on

Definitely wistful and melancholic! Very relaxing piece of music. Which BiaB Style did you get the cello from? I ask because I've often used cellos and other strings. I like the Todd Plummer comment on SoundCloud! laugh

Thanks very much for the feedback and pointers. Glad the mix translated well on your high-end system. Re the vocals... think I'll skip Suno because AFAIK they own the right to output, but might explore competitors. I've seen some walkthroughs for Synth V and also heard some demos in this forum which are very impressive, although, having worked with similar tools in the past, I suspect it can take a lot tweaking sometimes. Which is sometimes OK. Having said that, I do enjoy working within self-imposed constraints sometimes, like Mimi's limited selection of per scale phrases, versus rolling my own and opening too many choices - I tend to over-explore possibilities sometimes, which can be fun but can also lead to a mountain of unfinished projects smirk

Todd's an old friend, ha. I used Real 3268 Cello, Background CelticWaltzNatalie. Some of the gypsy violin RTs are nice too. Thank you for listening.

This track certainly lived up to its title. Very easy on the ear – sort of thing I could use to unwind after a long day with a 5yo boy!
Well done.

A beautiful song.
A waltz is always a good choice for a melancholic, wistful song.
Your mix is wide and open, and it sounds good.
There's nothing to worry about.
Well done [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

You are surely an apprentice i can learn from, Ken. i always thought "wistful" was waltz's first name.

Good mix. The lows may be a bit overpowering, yet still add good depth to the overall sound. This song sounds great in your, er my headphones. Also sounds good on the Klipsch speakers. A beautiful feel and lovely vocal.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I find it very beautiful; the guitar accompaniment and vocals are very well done. A little short for me.
