I Don't Think About It A reimagining of an old song. Lyrics from 1981, music from 2016, last posted here in 2019. This version keeps the original lyrics and melody but has new versions of the band, arrangement, key, vocalist, vocal arrangement and guitar fills. The fills aren't perfect. I put the song on a loop and recorded three takes, this is the last one. I always struggle with the balance between precision and spontaneity on melodic guitar parts, so...it is what it is. Sometimes I think it's too much... All the instruments you hear are from the 2026 _DAYSPAY.STY RealStyle. The various sections of the song use different combinations of instruments. When I go over your comments before l listen, they almost always make me think I should expect a train wreck. And then I listen to the song and it's always great! My favorite parts were the chorus and the bridge. Guitars brought a nice flavor to the track. I wasn't crazy about the word 'took' in the first verse. It just sounds off. (Yeah, I'm a nitpick, I know!) But the chorus more than made up for that. Of course your singing is nonpareil, as always. This coulda been a hit in that yesteryear many of us are stuck in. Great job!

Don't think I remember this from back then, but could have slipped under my radar  Sounds great to me, Ron. Good write from R.W. as per usual! Strong chorus and I especially like the bridge, cool BGV's. I also like your fills, very "hooky". Excellent!

This is awesome!
I agree on the poignancy of the lyrics. It's a very cool contrast to the excellent pop arrangement. I also love the way you deliver the lyrics with a feeling of resignation. Hard to do and you do it so well.
The mix on this song is sharp with such a high sheen - I could easily hear this coming over the radio. It should be a hit!

Agree with the above. Very catchy and hooky and really great vocals including BVGs. I personally would make them louder, at least at times eg the chorus.

Really well done on the vocal performance, melody and instrumentals. Good song. Just two nits I agree with Bob about "took" in the first verse. Maybe change to something like: "Thought we had what it took or a pretty good try". The other nit is I think the electric rhythm guitar should stand back 2 or 3 db when you're singing as it's clouding your voice a little. Vic

Hi Ron!
I like the pace of your song - a slight nonchalance to reflect the subject’s attempts to forget. The song had a ‘The Cars’ feel to it, possibly aided by Elliott Easton sounding guitar fills - I like the tone of the guitar fills - a tone like a combination of guitar and organ just like The Cars would use. I would’ve preferred for the piano to have a bit more focus/space to operate in when it came in, but that’s a preference thing, and without the benefit of hearing it isolated, which might change my opinion. Good BVs as usual. I’d put this song amongst my favourites of yours, although ‘The girl from accounting’ is still top.

Another brilliant song from you, Ron. Love the chord structure and mix, plus I think the guitar fills are really effective and excellent. I suspect that a lot of songwriters will relate to the theme: I don't think about it at all, but I'll still write a song about it!

45 years in the making, just like wine getting better with age. Love your fills, nothing wrong with them, if you throw the ones you discarded my way, I'd be more than satisfied. Loved the harmonies that came into the song toward the end, exceptional. You're a fine musician, lyricist, and artist.

Thanks, Rob. "Coulda been a hit..." is a great compliment, and we appreciate it! You're absolutely correct, the "took" lyric sacrifices proper grammar for the rhyme. I find the opening verse endearing, even though it's poor English. Wouldn't be the first (or last) time. I am DEFINTITELY stuck in a yesteryear though.

Due to my advanced age, I don't recall your earlier versions. That said, I definitely like this one better.
Those rather clever lyrics remind me that often our lives, our thoughts, our words, or our beliefs manifest certain contradictions – contradictions that may be manifest to others but not necessarily to ourselves.

"the balance between precision and spontaneity" --yeah, i get that too. Since function is always over fashion, i tend to spontaneity over precision. Precision is for Ai --and some classical players. What a fine song, Ron. I can see why you;d do it several ways, and it's so cool that BiaB helps so well with that. This is a great version, and the guitar seemed very presice to me. Probably cuz i was really enjoying the whole, especially the lyrics (you're the best R.W. Davis!) and the vocal. Terrific production. Powerful sound. Ha this is cool. As i was typing "powerful" Soundcloud loaded Mario's "Power."

I really like the guitar riffing in the background; it has a sound somewhere between an electric guitar and a synthesizer. The singing is great. Very good song.

I have a preference for louder vocals relative to the mix since I like the lyrics to be heard. I THINK I've got these vocal levels where I want them, but will continue to re-listen andmonitor feedback. Always a chance to learn from the ears of others!
