There was a patch... early into release that I believe messed up a common sense "Default View". Now, it seems no matter what I do I get a view (UI screen configuration) of the last project used on startup .
While you can save a "Default View" under "Views" button dialog, it will not open BIAB with that view. You will get your Default view only by pressing this Views button. If I am right, this is a bug and should be fixed. Default view = Default View. BIAB should open (boot with empty project) in Default view regardless of the view last used. You are NOT opening that last project, you simply booting up BIAB. Am I missing something trivial?
If PGM wants to do this right:
#1 Fix Default View. Program should always boot up to Default View ...by default. Unless you manually set BIAB to open last project.
#2 Custom view should be saved with the project. Individual projects should open with the view they were last saved.

Yes, that was the first item I checked. I have it set to: At program bootup "Don't open song or style".
BIAB always loads non-default view (as set under View button dialog) every time for me. It always loads a view of last project used (not the project itself)
I assume your BIAB set to boot at something else.
To test:
1) Define a default view under "Views" button context menu
2) Set preference to: At program bootup "Don't open song or style".
3)Open a new project, mess up position of panels in UI, or open a specific full view that is not your default view.
4) Save project, close BIAB
5) Open BIAB.
I raised this in testing, but no one seemed to hear or care. So trying here.

Of couse we users hear and care  ! . I ran your test and confirmed the results are as you state. I fully agree with your recommendation that" ...- BIAB should open on default view, not last used view". However, NOT if you selected "Open with previous Song" set in the preferences. In that case, the song should open with the view it was saved. Your observation of this action has been discussed and debated behind the scenes many times. Which may explain why continued discussion is sparse. It's unfortunant that this "default" logic seems to be so difficult for the programers to achieve.  So let's see what the "masses here" think bout this?

Well, not really. There was a debate on if BIAB should open with last project. And there is an option for that, as you've mentioned: "Open with previous Song". I have zero issues with that.
However, when you have bootup as "Don't open song or style". - It should always fall to Default view.

I have mine set for Open with Last Song because that’s most often what i do, but yes, I agree with your request if your setting is to open with neither song nor style.

Booting with last project - that is a perfect example of request (a wish) that was fulfilled and there is a specific option for that.
Mine is not a request (wish), but a bug that needs to be fixed.
I was having doubts that it's possible somehow to get the Default view on boot or something was up with my specific setup, but Dan confirmed behavior.
New project = default view is a standard across most software. Music, or non music related.

Misha, that’s interesting that you think it was a Wishlist that gave us the option to open the previous song. I think it’s been there so long, like three decades, that I can’t remember a time we did not have this option. Of course I know your post isn’t about that. It’s just that I’ve always used this ‘last song’ option and had no reason to experience what you are seeing.

I am talking about UI state. (that was a particular wish) I might be wrong, but I don't believe BIAB saved/opened UI states prior this year.
Regardless, I consider current way it opens a new project a bug. Relatively tiny, but "in your face" bug.
P.S. Matt you are thinking I terms of your personal workflow. I usually have 3-4 active projects I am working on. Why would BIAB decide for me on UI workspace prior me opening the project? That is why we have default. Default=default.
Again, a proper (and expected way) would be for BIAB to remember UI layout per individual project.

And you’re right about my workflow. What I like about beta testing is their instruction to use BIAB as you normally do. With enough of us, that should expose many issues.

something tells me it is hard for PGM to embed UI views for every project (written in actual SGU/MGU). Maybe they will do it in the future.
For now, I think the easiest straight forward solution would be:
1) If you have preference set to open last project, it should open with that last project with UI set / configuration just as you left it before closing.
2) Having "Don't open song or File" in preferences - BIAB opens with Default screen set.

I should probably clarify that my workflow would never reveal the issue. Though I may generate hundreds of BiaB songs a year, I only use a single view for all of them
But the correct behavior is as Misha describes in the post above, and I 110% support the change. Right is right...

Yes, I concur the request is valid and you’ve confirmed some of us wouldn’t have experienced the problem.
Misha, I’ve always suspected the cause of some problems not being solved is the initial design size of the records chosen with 8-bit numbers. The longest unfulfilled wishlist item is the 255 measure limit. Saving more bits with each song might cause a backward compatibility problem for newer versions. Nevertheless it should be done.

To clarify, the requests are specifically regarding the Multi-view (window) layout - for example you might have ChordSheet on top, Notation on bottom with a floating Mixer window - that would be one 'Multi-View' configuration. There are two separate requests here
1) To be able to specify a default 'view' that the program would have at bootup. Currently, it boots up with the 'Previous session's view, which is auto-saved when you close the program. The idea is that it remembers the current layout when you close the program, and when you next open, it is the same that you left it. You can also save a 'default' view. To get back to that default view after opening the program, you could just press the Views button. So the way it works now is intentional, not a bug. However, that said, it is certainly a reasonable request to have an option to load a default view at bootup.
2) The other request here that Rustyspoon has been a proponent of, is the ability to save the window layout in your song files. This would be possible as a setting (e.g. save/load views with songs). Many people would not want this - e.g. imagine loading in a few songs one after the other and each song you load in causes the main screen to get completely rearranged. But yes, as a setting it would probably be fine.

Andrew, thank you for attention to this matter.
1) Lets clear something fundamental. All programs have a "default" view. That is how programs open, music or non-music. A default, by definition is constant. It doesn't change (unless changed and saved as new default).
Having an option to open "last project" layout is great, but should be looked as a convenience feature that could be turned on (or off).
Andrew, I believe, users are in agreement that the most balanced approach would be : Having "Don't open song or File" in preferences - BIAB opens with Default view layout. If Preference has "Open Last song" - it opens with the remembered layout when you close the program. This should work for everybody.

2) Yes some people might not want that. However most will probably enjoy that option. In my opinion main idea behind BIAB is creating backing tracks... and much smaller group use it for bulk playback (jukebox?), but I agree, this is more of a request. (unlike #1)
