Here are some tools I am looking at. Any other recommendations? the first two on the list arr current best options for me.
LyricStudio
It doesn’t just spit out random lines, it gives thematic suggestions, rhyming options, and phrasing ideas that actually make sense in the context of what you are writing. No recommendations from my side because I only know (and use) RhymeZone.
But both Masterwriter and (especially) Songwriter's Pad look interesting.
I know you use the first program, but have you tried the second one yet, and can you tell me anything about it?

I have not tried any of them yet. Well except for LyricStudio which it turns out I created an account over 3 years ago and did one song. However, that free version timed out. Which I only discovered today as I tried to go back into it.
But LyricStudio is not the first one on my list to try. That is full on AI (well maybe a bit more collaborative) as I remember it. I am hoping I can use something less AI'ey. So I am thinking I will evenually try Masterwriter.
But I am not ready at this time to do the lyrics. Instead, I am just starting to work on arrangment and Chords which should all come together in Reaper with BIAB and EZKeys and other MIDI - as long as I can keep them all synched to a fixed tempo. I really don't have any fixed workflow for this project - as a result I am making much of it up as I go along. I can tell you I am hearing nothing but Good about Masterwriter in my studies.

… I still subscribe to Barry's service but haven't used it much in a few years. Before it was online only, I was a reseller for the (discontinued) stand-alone version. Back when I wrote every day with a partner, there was a big rhyming dictionary and thesaurus on our desk—we consulted both constantly—the reason I bought it. There are organizational features in Masterwriter I keep meaning to explore but never did. I also like that it can be opened in a different view for writing that novel I keep meaning to get to. I may yet... The home screen makes it look like two different apps but it's just different ways to access the home screens—both can be open at the same time. I still like the features. I have Masterwriter on my old Dell Laptop from way back in the day. It is not a subscription model. At the time, you could buy MW outright and it would run forever without a subscription. Early to mid 2005 or thereabouts. If i recall correctly, TAXI members were given the opportunity to grab it at 50% off the going price of $199 at the time. I grabbed it for $99. It still works and I still use it. Of course, it hasn't updated in a very long time and I doubt it's even supported by MW now.... Since rhyming words haven't changed appreciably in decades, it's still as relevant as it ever was. Just some of the phrases are now rather dated or missing as it hasn't been updated. Maybe I should look into seeing if it is still being supported and updated.
So when I hit the brick wall so to speak, I simply use AI to search for rhyming words and even offer suggestions to replace a dated or cliched phrase. AI wasn't even a concept for the ordinary person when MW was first released. It was only in the minds of the software engineers of the time working in the labs.
Edit: there appears to be an upgrade path for the old MW2.0 users like me. Checking it out now.

So I got a PM from one of our fellow forum mates last night. He steared me in the direction of a fully AI app which simply blew my mind! I have worked with AI apps for lyrics in the past (specifically LyricStudio and ChatGPT). I even just paid for a 12 month subscription. I spent some time yesterday with LyricStudio and created a Verse and Chorus. But today I repeated my efforts with this "fully AI" app and was blown away.
Totally amazing. The suggested lyrics for multiple verses, pre-chorus, chorus, Bridge all appeared instantly with very little query. They were above and beyond any thing I had done yesterday with Lyric Studio. I mean like night and day different. Like 2010 versus 2026! Obviously, better than anything I had seen in the past. I didn't know this had gotten so good in the past years.
And if that was not enough, the AI then asked me if it wanted it to:
Adjust syllable counts for tighter melodic phrasing
Tailor the lyrics to fit a specific chord progression per line (it wanted the chords and arrangement order which I had already finalize over the past week)
Add rhyme‑scheme annotations
Rewrite in a more upbeat or more somber tone
I am testing this AI app. But at this time, hold off on subscribing to LyricStudio till you hear more about this.

So i am in the process of creating a new App that will be a song sketchbook of sorts. DrDan is testing it for me. It is getting several upgrades this morning the workflow is 1. Set the tempo, Sett the Key, set the style of music i.e. pop, country etc., set the complexity of chords, enter the chords you want in a chord arranger panel from a list in that key, 2. open the Lyrics panel and generate the Prompts for any Ai you like to create lyrics you like in a style that the Song sketcher imports back in, once the lyrics are to your liking import back it and move to the export panel and chose from 2 (third one coming) formats to enter into other software.
The concept is that you need to an Ai to know exactly what an Ai thinks like to create Prompts that work well. The app will be a browser app that can also be installed as an icon and will be auto updates from time to time.

The AI has gotten incredibly good indeed! But the question is, Do you want to write your songs yourself using tools like MasterWriter to assist or do you want AI to write them for you? Personally, I want AI to do more of my work so I have more time to do my art and hobbies. Sounds nice, I suppose. The last thing I want is for AI to help me write songs. I am not driven to produce content and only do so when I have something I like. I have a few hundred songs written over the last fifty-five years; if all I want to do is produce content, I’d start with those. I do use AI a lot. ACE Studio lets me import MusicXML and assign voices that sing the words and music. Saves a lot of time making choral demos for myself and clients. I have a couple of other AI tools for this and that but none are used as part of my creative process. I’ve had in mind a sprawling historic novel for a few decades. I was hoping that I could use AI to help me with the needed research. It’s generated so much misinformation—now we call it AI slop—that AI has proven absolutely useless for the task. Maybe it will get better but, for now, it’s not nearly ready for prime time. An AI tool I would buy in a second is a music scanner that actually works—looks at a piece of printed music and knows the notes, rests, key changes, reads the words and clefs and gets it right. I have SmartScore, MusicToPDF, MuseScore and a few others. Sometimes they save some time but none of them are any damned good with the historical scores I use in my theater and church work. It’s often faster to just re-enter everything in Finale, one note at a time (my left arm is paralyzed from a stroke I suffered 17 years ago). Rearranging twenty pages of Gilbert and Sullivan this weekend for a show I’m conducting in August — looks horrible in SmartScore, dammit.

Yeah, if you re-read my comment you'll see I also want no AI writing any parts of my songs! I already feel guilty enough for using BIAB! I've avoided AI for research where facts matter and I can't independently confirm what is presented. However, I had a fantastic recent AI experience that delighted and frightened me about the future! I am a website developer by trade for the past 30 years. And I am a capable coder in many programming languages. Recently I've been hearing chatter about using AI to write code but I've been very skeptical. So a week ago I decided to give it a try. And I was blown away at how fast it was able to deliver a fully functional Wordpress plugin with only about an hour of back and forth "conversation"! I will qualify the results by acknowledging that I had to provide very clear, informative prompts that wouldn't have been possible without my background. And when it made mistakes or generated code that could be a security risk I was able to catch and correct those issues. But it gave me exactly the code I needed in an hour that would have probably taken me a day or two to develop! One caveat to this experience is, because I did NOT go through the specific learning experience for developing that piece of code, I didn't really add much to my personal knowledge. And a year from now that bit of code will be harder to support. With that said, I bookmarked the "conversation" and I can rejoin it at any time to refresh my memory (unless/untill that bit gets erased!)

So I use AI in the same manner as I do when I work with a living, breathing co-writer.
If it comes down to, I'm stuck or can't figure out what will fit or how can I see this differently and I don't have a co-writer to bounce this off of, and if I can't figure it out, the sub standard line is going to be the sore thumb of this song.... Heck yeah I'm going to bounce this off of my AI cowriting assistant.
I'm currently working on a new song. I generally throw in a bunch of lines just as fillers and then come back and try to figure out what will continue the story line as well as fit the existing rhyme and groove of the song. Kinda like the ham and eggs story about McCartney writing Yesterday.
If I had a co-writer, normally I'd kick it over to them with instructions such as.... Of the 4 lines in this section, I like the first two and the last one. See if you can come up with something else that fits better for line 3. Feel free to rewrite line 4 if necessary but keeping with the rhyme of the first part.
I use AI in that manner. It comes back with 3 or 4 suggestions. Then it asks, should I suggest something more aggressive, more laid back, or gritty? Choosing one of those options provides several more variants for the lines in question.
As is often the case with suggestions from a live co-writer, what actually happens is that one of those lines kinda somewhat fits or works but it causes me to consider something that is different from the suggestion that works even better and for me.
And that is exactly what happened. I'm still in the refining and editing stage with the lyric but that is how I get to a finished lyric. It starts in my head and comes out with a lot of places that require more work. The more work, editing happens and I end up with a final lyric. That is how I use AI in my writing process. It simply suggests and I edit it to my liking

I have a dictionary & a rhyming dictionary.
I use them when I absolutely need to...not often.
I've used the intro generator in BIAB form generator occasionally but it's a little too obvious in it's preference for augmented chords when attached to a non augmented chord progression and has a couple of other tendencies that need intervention as well.
I tried the melodist in BIAB a couple of times but found it to be bloody awful.
I have no problem with other folk using A.I. so long as it's declared, but don't see it as something for me until such time as I cannot physically do things.

When my wife saw this in my studio bookcase recently, she wondered why in the world I would buy a copy when there's another in one of our music bookcases that she had owned since high school. I pointed out that I had purchased my copy used from a bookstore near San Jose State before we met in 1972 (I lived near the school and still own the house). Yeah, mine dates back to high school, too. I've not checked to see if her's is also a 1943 1st edition (nor do I care). Between the internet, MasterWriter and other resources, neither of us have cracked open our copies in many, many years but mine saw a lot of use over four decades. Gosh, I LOVE books. And honest-to-goodness libraries (the Dewey Decimal System!). And, heck, I even love card catalogs!
The SMELL of a book alone is heavenly. The EXPERIENCE of reading a book, or over a lifetime, hundreds of books, is life altering.
We have an entire wall lined with shelves of books. And stacks of books artistically arranged about the house. And boxes of books for when we can't make room.
It's an unreasonable obsession. But we own it.
As a practical matter, smelly, hardcopy books as we know them aren't necessary. I might find it painful that future generations won't share the same pleasure of books we have known, but prefer to cherish the memory of what it has meant for us.
I'm going to have to find an old rhyming dictionary now. Just because...
