I am using BiaB 2026 and every so often I get a problem with relationship of the above folders with regard to stye selection a song demos.
My latest issue arose when I added some of Bob Norton's styles that all come with demo songs. Installing these styles places the style files in the Style folder and the demo songs in the Demo folder.
My understanding of BiaB styles is that style files can only be used if they are in the root of the Styles folder, otherwise they are not visible to BiaB and so if style files are located anywhere else within the bb folder they will not be seen.
So, I know the styles have gone into Styles folder and demo songs into the demo folder. When I select a Norton style and click on Demo, I am told that no demo file exists for this song. When I click on Demo in the style picker, should it not look in the demo folder for a song with the same name as the style? What happens if the matching song is several folders nested inside Demos?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Not sure if this helps or is related, but have you tried rebuilding the Style Picker using the the 'Slow' option?

You definitely need to do the Slow Rebuild. That’s the difference - the inclusion of third-party styles in the index. However, the existence of demo files as already prepared files is a different topic. I do own some (very good) Norton Music styles, but I don’t really need a demo; I know what the demo sounded like from Bob’s site when I bought it. I don’t even know if his styles come with demos; I never thought to look.

You definitely need to do the Slow Rebuild. Slightly irritatingly, BiaB defaults to the fast option on any kind of reinstall. I always cancel that and start a slow rebuild myself. It saves time in the long run.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.

Gordon, exactly. I’ve been suggesting for a few years during the testing stage that the rebuild be made automatic as part of any update requiring it, and that they just do the Slow rebuild without asking.
When I’ve just done an update, and I start BIAB to do a project, I don’t like having to complete the update first. There is some agreement with me out there.

It doesn't search all folders recursively, just specific folders. It would work to move the files into bb\Demos\MIDI Style Demos\Misc

Thank you all for the helpful tips. The link to jford's article was particularly helpful and also highlighted the overall problem that I originally posted about.
The BiaB manual is very dense with lots of very useful information about song creation features. In the distant past I think the reference section contained much more information about how BiaB itself works behind the scenes in order to produce the outcomes for all its features.
Jford’s article demonstrates what BiaB does behind the scenes to play and audio demonstration of a midi stryle when the Demo button in the Stylepicker is clicked. I was aware of the behaviour BiaB when the same file name is used with wmv files, but I wasn’t aware of how this could work with the clicking of the Demo button, especially the fact that the filename with the same name as the midi style file, but with a wma extension, would cause BiaB to search in specific folder and play this file. I’m sure there are many more features that users could take advantage of in their own work if these mechanisms were provided in the reference of the manual.
The Songs folder can be searched recursively and so there is a great opportunity organise the user song library to best effect. The Styles folder does not operate this way and so there is a single folder into which everything is lumped.
It may be that all of this information is contained in the manual (I’m not the best at finding these things), if so then I apologise for complaining unnecessarily.
