I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem: A RealTrack generated and played in BIAB sounds fine in terms of volume consistency. But when I've rendered it to WAV and imported it into Sonar, the volume differences are exaggerated (evident in both the sound and waveform). In some cases, I've had to double the track to get the soft parts loud enough, in addition to using the volume envelope extensively to try to balance out the notes.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Agree - I have tried all adjustments to get the same result from a render as from the normal play without a satisfactory outcome
For sometime now I have used the Creative Console in X-Fi Xtreme soundcard and recorded in real time - although initially this obviously takes longer you get what you hear and therefore quicker and less frustrating in the long run

I've used RTs in several songs and always rendered individual instruments to a WAV file and then transferred them to my hard disc recorder for mixing. Never really noticed the problem described here. I think I'll record the audio out of my laptop and compare it to a rendered WAV, after normalizing to the same peak dB.
If there is a significant difference, then this is a serious bug in rendering to WAVs.

I would use the drag and drop method for the tracks into Sonar. I have tried this with two different programs and had very nice results.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB/RB 2026, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 11 , Presonus Audiobox USB96

Yes. I've had this problem on both XP and Vista machines. When importing a BIAB arrangement into RealBand, the volume differences between tracks can be quite different. Most of the time, the RealDrums are much lower in volume than the RealTracks.
You may want to try a realtime recording instead of Rendering and see if that is better. If not, try Rendering the tracks to separate Wav files and do your mixing elsewhere.

Note: I'm interpreting the OP as saying the relative volumes within a track are different depending on whether the track is rendered to a WAV or played from BIAB. That is, the dB difference between certain loud and soft sections differs. If it's the overall volume of a track being discussed, then what I'm going to post doesn't apply:
I did a quick test using the TEXSWGP RT style and generated a short 22 sec song. I rendered each individual RT track (drums, acoustic guitar, pedal steel) to separate WAV files. I then recorded from the audio output of my laptop each individual instrument soloed by BIAB into a Zoom H2 recorder. Imported the Zoom files to my laptop and used Sound Forge to normalize each file (rendered and Zoom) to the same peak dB value. All 3 instruments have the same (within a few tenths of a dB) RMS (average volume) level for both files. The waveforms also look the same.
Maybe what the OP (and others) are saying depends on the RTs involved, but I see no difference.
I'm using BIAB 2010 Build 297.

Not an issue for me with Drag and Drop into Sonar. Separate tracks for each instrument. Volume envelopes adjusted. Equalizer,
echo etc plug-ins as required and it sounds much better than the original BIAB mix. I always make sure in BIAB before I Drag and drop
that volumes are set equal for all instruments (100) and pan is set to zero otherwise you get bias on the stereo track.
No my experience is the opposite.

There is no difference here.
Maybe those experiencing the volume difference or drop need ot set the Playback mixer of their soundcard. Mine are all the way up. I don't use that software fader to adjust the volume of my system anymore, I use the Big Knob on the amp that drives my speakers instead. That way, the soundcard is always "normalized".

I really appreciate the feedback! Yes, I'm talking about the difference between the loudest and softest notes once the rendered track has been imported into Sonar. It's not a problem with overall loudness. I am also talking about rendering individual tracks to WAV.
I don't have BIAB 2010 so that I can merely drag and drop. Maybe this is another reason to consider upgrading. It's a solvable problem, but it just takes more time to get the tracks acceptable. I'll try the realtime recording suggestion as well.

Mel, I have not noticed this effect, and I take my songs from BIAB into SONAR all the time. Do you have anything on the master bus in SONAR - any effects or processing?
In SONAR, what is your panning law setting?

Hi Matt, I don't have any effects or processing on the master bus that I'm aware of. I must confess I've never heard of a panning law setting.
