Just a note. The ToneMatch gizmo on my bose goes to the computer. My SD 20, keyboard, keyboard thru, and sound output go there and get mixed and back via usb.
When you set Audacity to record via usb it grabs the signal as tweaked on each input, including mic if my voice wasn't gone, and it records a very nice Mono track because the system is mono. I can then jack things around, pan stuff, and record it again. Now I get a nice stereo tracks.
Works great. I wonder if those using a newer mixer with usb can't do the same, that is fire up Audacity, set it up for your usb, and then press record and play. Note that this takes care of the Ketron SD20 input as this is going to one of the channels on the Bose.
I think PG needs a Bose L1 Model 2 with 2 bass modules for testing with nice audix mics and never mind...LOL.
It is a tad expensive. I was writing the will and going YIKES who gets this thing....

John, Reading between the lines here. It's smart to have a will however you aren't saying that you think you'll need it soon are you? I do hope not, however if your Bose needs a home I can provide one where it'll be quite comfortable. Hang in there man. Like I told ya, my wife was given the old "2 years at most" talk in 1997 and she's in better health then I am. DO NOT GIVE IN. I know you're tired and the treatments take a big toll. She had 3 weeks of high dose chemo and a bone marrow transplant after that to restore her blood system that was destroyed by the chemo. the night I took her out of Dana Farber in defiance we went out for pizza and beer.

Hey John,
I've been recording voice straight into Audacity with nothing but a Samson CO1U USB mic, works totally fine, surprisingly good quality. No extraneous boxes needed.
I then export it into Melodyne and fix the pitch and other stuff (create harmonies for example, which I now do by double-tracking unison singing then dragging one track into a harmony place in Melodyne, works a treat)
Now that I've found BIAB for songwriting process and backing tracks, my game is swiftly ramping up, I love it. Next stop is trying Realband, I think.
And yeah John wishing you courage in your health challenges my man.

John, A will from a legal standpoint, nothing else, okay man?
Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Everybody needs a will regardless of age unless you literally have nothing of value to leave to someone you care about. Many people only think about it when faced with a health crisis but slipping on the ice and breaking your neck in a fatal way or being in a car crash can happen to anybody at any age. Your writing still looks good John, hang in there man.

I started this out as a eureka moment. So do the usb mixers do the same thing as the BOSE, ie, does their USB port take the mix back to the system, as well as take from the system what you send it? Thus you get an external midi solution like a hardware synth in, mic in, line in, aux in, then take it back to the system and use Audicity or a DAW to grab the mixed results...Yes or No?
The fact that it's all on one channel has a limitation, but I suppose there must be another solution with multiple ins to the computer letting you render you track on the fly to multiple tracks right?
