If I upgrade to 2010.5 for $149.00, when 2011 version comes out, do I get the same discount for $149.00 for a month or do we pay the $279.00 upgrade price for 2011 upgrade. In other words I could save $21.00 and wait for 2011 if that is the case, just curious

I'd ask sales. I don't think there's any guarantee that anyone from PG music stumbles on your post and answers.

The way I understand it is if you own the 2010 version the 2010.5 upgrade is free. The new RealTracks/Drums are $99 on DVD and $149 on HD (meaning the media is $50).

When the next major revision comes out (2011 in this case) the upgrade is not free and neither is any new RealTrack/Drums. Thus the approx. $279 for a major upgrade. This policy seems to have been around for several years at least.

So, as to your question, you could save some money waiting until the major version upgrade but you wouldn't have those fantastic RealTracks/Drums until the December release.

I personally couldn't bear to wait that long. The Northern Rock (Neil Young) RT styles alone are worth the $99 by themselves.

Historically there has always been a smattering of folks who waited, thinking they'd save money and then found out that to catch up actually cost them more. Sales end, "introductory" prices change, etc. Then they come around here complaining bitterly, of course.

Can't guarantee that would be the case every time, but be advised.

Nobody is tighter than me and I went with the $99 pack (actually 104 for mailing the dvds) in order to get the new real tracks. My experiance has also been that the specials don't stay up for ever and you end up paying more for the pack when you wait. My experiance also has been I have never been unhappy with the value of the new package I have purchased.

I'd love to have the new Jazz B3 organ realtrack set, but don't care for country/folk realtracks, so $99 looks a bit high, even the $79 I'd have to pay for the Jazz 4 Pak.

I guess that there will another holiday special at Christmas and if I now pay $99 for the upgrade, and on Christmas could get an UltraPak upgrade from 2010 to 2011 including other new Realtracks for $149, I would definitely regret the purchase of the SummerPak.

But I would surely buy the SummerPak, if there will be special discounts for SummerPak owners on Christmas!

I can live with spending $150 per year for BIAB upgrades, but more than $200 would be too much.

Can't afford to upgrade anything until the end of February next year. So, I guess I'll have to spit out the big bucks...

Ah well...

Cheers,
Mike

I was going to wait because I don't use real tracks very much. However, I listened to some and really like them plus I know that I'll get the upgrade in December which will probably be cheaper by the price of the summer pack.

Well I think we need some more country guitar soloists and as requested on the wishlist forum some country paino.

Has not been the case in the past!

Thats what you are paying for and the reason I had tried not to listen to them....

Could you please give more details on that? I paid $159 for an upgrade from BIAB 12 Megapak to UltraPak 2010 (Christmas holiday special).

And if on Christmas 2010 there will be a similar offer which gives me Realpaks 83-101 plus additional Realpaks that come with BIAB UltraPak 2011, I'll better not buy the SummerPak...

Ditto! This conversation comes up every time. No one here has "the answer". It's up to PG music. If you have 2010 and don't want another drive get the $99 DVD and install to the old drive. It'll be just like the $149 one. The extra $50 is for the drive. Get it and "Rock On"

Prices winter specials:
BIAB UltraPAK 2009 from 2008 -> 129$ (crossgrade 149$)
BIAB UltraPlusPAK 2010 from 2009 -> 139$ (crossgrade 159$)

My forecast BIAB 2011: Update 149$, crossgrade 169$.

You should opt for a constant update rhythm: Either update always during the winter special or always during the summer special.
in my opinion, best option is winter, because the xxx.5 versions in summer are for free. If you want the summer RealTracks in between, you have to pay extra for your impatience.

Exactly my experience. Last year money was a little looser and those summer Jazz RT's were soooo sweet. No reason at all to wait till the end of year roll out. But this year this blasted economy is the pitts. So in my case, I don't even listen to the new tracks since I literally can't afford the $99.

Just one mans story.

Personally I find somewhere else to cut spending (no, I'm not a politician) rather than pass on BIAB upgrades and enhancements. I get more out of them than anything else I spend money on (well, almost anything else, money spent on my wife is always well worth it) and you never can use past practices and amounts to base a decision on. PG Music is in the same economic environment as anyone else and could raise the prices for their products. If it looks like a good deal now, it probably is but may not be around later. Just my 4 cents worth (inflation, you know).

I see the upgrade waiting game going on for lot's of different types of products. To me it's more of a subjective thing. Music is a great hobby for this old retired guy. For my money, the enjoyment is worth every penny. FWIW

I have really broken it down :

Purchase only the new RT Sets 91 and 92 - the Jazz Horn Soloist which I am sure I would love if I listened to them.
That's $29 x 2 for $58.

Or

Purchase the New RealPak Jazz 4 which includes all of Jazz 4 - RT 90 - 95 (Jazz horns plus guitar and organ) for $79.

Or

Purchase the Summer Pak, RTs 83 - 101 which includes Jazz 4, Country 4 and Rock 4 Real Paks for $99

So many options and so little time and money. Keeping in mind that I will likely pick up the 2011 EverythingPak come end of year, then I am leaning towards the cheapest buy (..thats just the way I roll) for now.

MikeK, I'm with you man. With being retired and Social Security not being much and all the medical bills I have hanging over me that insurance did NOT cover, it's reaching the point I can no longer afford to keep up financially with the nice updates of PG products.

I'm currently at 2009 with BIAB and RB and will probably have to "retire" there. I can't afford to invest more into the products I love. What I have today will have to do tomorrow.

I was afraid this would happen one day...
