This may seem like a dumb question, and maybe I'm just missing something, but I can't figure out how to add hand claps to a song as a part of the percussion. If I do it via the drum track, the style overrides it; and if I try adding it thru the solo or melody tracks, it's not available. I appreciate any suggestions- Thanks

I add hand claps, jingle bells, whatever other percussion instrument needed, using the Style Editor and the Drum Grid. Save the style under a new name so as not to overwrite and lose the original.
Not that this will not work with RealDrums. Only MIDI-based drums.

Since any recording I do is via a stand alone recorder i.e. BR-1180 I add hand claps the old fashion way by clapping into the mic on a separate track. Then I double the track on the recorder as many times as I have to so I can get a fuller sound. But again this is not done using BIAB or RB's recording capabilities, so I am not sure this will help you.
I would think if you are recording using BIAB or RB Mac's style tweaking would be the way to go.

My tip is for BiaB.
If using RealBand, one doesn't have to edit a style since we can easily make a new track with MIDI percussion bank and simply use the drum grid to lay out claps after selecting the handclap patch.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I wish I had RealBand because that sounds like the easiest way, but unfortunately right now I don't. I also considered the old fashioned--and certainly most realistic method--that of manually clapping into a mic then duplicating the sound. Using the style editor worked very nicely, though and thank you again for the geat ideas. I obviously have a lot yet to learn about Biab.

Hi. You can do what you want on the soloist or melody track. After entering your Eb3 notes for the hand clap go to the menu and select Soloist, Sequencer Window for Multi-channel Soloist. It will offer to set the Track Type to multi-channel so click the Yes button. Click the Edit button in the dialog and select Rechannel. Set the channel number to 10 which is the drum kit. You should now hear the hand claps when you play your song. Be sure to leave the track as multi or else BIAB will override your assigned channel number and play it on the default soloist (or melody) channel.

Hello all-
Like Danny C, I use a mic to add handclaps, but I don't do it by actually clapping into a mic. I do it by smacking my thighs while wearing my favorite jeans. Sounds great, each track sounds like you're getting two people to clap at the same time. If you have a good rhythmic sense, you can even make an occasional clap "a little off-beat" to make the track sound fuller and less sterile. When I double that track, it already sounds like a group of folks clapping without a hundred overdubs. Quick and painless (well, except for my red legs! LOL).
Of course, as Danny mentioned, it's not really done within BiaB, though.
