HI,
I was wondering if part of a RT bass part can be regenerated. I love the audio fidelity of the RT bass but sometimes on jazz songs there is just too much "licks" as opposed to chromatic walks. I know I could just audition another bass part but sometimes there's a great walk during a verse but then it runs into a few bars of notes I would like to replace.
I understand the RT parts consist of so many measures of audio loops so to speak, wondering if these so many measures could be switched without replacing the whole RT bass part.
Thanks,

Not in Biab but this is one of the great features of Real Band. RB is not sinply another version of Biab, it's it's own discrete 48 track audio/midi sequencing program but it opens Biab files, generates Biab tracks either midi or Real Tracks/Drums and does it on a track by track or bar by bar basis using different styles if you want. Check it out. If you want to stay in Biab anyway, the workaround is to use two tracks for the bass and use the "mute bars" function so your original bass track stays as is but you mute the 8 or 12 bar section you don't like and then using another instrument track that's not part of the style like maybe the strings, melody or solo track create another bass RT but mute everything but that same 8 to 12 bar section. Once it's given you the two parts you like, freeze the tracks. The big difference between this and using RB is Biab can only use one style at a time but you can change styles during the song but RB can use different styles anywhere you want on any track or any part of a track without changing what you've already generated. That opens up a ton of possibilities.

Yes, move the project over to the included RealBand where you can highlight just a specified region of the track and choose Regenerate until you come up with something more palatable to you.

Hi,
I'm reading the pdf on how to do what you're talking about. I have the main screen and the tracks screen up.
I highlight the measures I want to change the bass part on in the main screen and they automatically highlight the tracks measures.
Then in the track screen I right click and near the bottom of the selection list I pick regenerate bass /selected region and it does it but it only seems to do it once. Is there a way to cycle through bass samples in the same style, doing it like this?
Also In making several bass tracks at once and pick between tracks, how do you mute the different track regions so they don't play at once?>
Thanks! Gary

Hi Gary, Just click on the green "tick" and it will turn into a red "cross". The check-mark is located to the right of the track's name and by changing the tick to a cross, the voice will be muted. If you are interested, there is a collection of RB video tutorials at... http://www.pgmusic.com/realbandvideos.htmRegards, Noel

Hi Noel,
I could see the x's and such, I was wondering if the individual regions could be muted, like I can do in cubase. Yes, I saw the videos, I'm on limited bandwidth is the reason I didn't download them but I'm going to have to figure out a way to do it.
Thanks! Gary

Gary, if you are comfortable working in cubase perhaps you are better served by exporting wav files and working with them there. I don't have anything against Realband but I hate learning new software because I'm getting old and I don't have as many operating brain cells as I once had. I've been using SONAR or its Cakewalk predecessors for about 12 years so I tend to gravitate toward what I know and integrate all of what I know into a workable whole. I tend to do major surgery on real tracks that Biab generates. Like you i have found that I can get a good starting point but often an instrument is too busy, or playing something that is not what I want at a certain point of the song. I usually generate a couple of versions of what I'm working on, export all of the waves to SONAR, and then cut and paste an instrument part together. I might move something from the end of a track to the beginning, I always cut a lot of things out, I might clone something and use it again later, but what BIAB generates for me is always just a starting point and I decide what I'm going to use, what I'm going to throw away and where on the timeline something is going to play.
I'm just suggesting that maybe instead of trying to scale a new learning curve you might find it less stressful to work with what you already know.

Something you may consider is using a different RT. I have found that the Jazz Acoustic Bass at 60 and 85 tend to be rather busy for my taste. For those ballads, I substitute the Pop Acoustic Bass. It does not have a 'walking' pattern but never 'surprises' me.
Also, sometimes freezing the Bass can be the answer. For example, you may want the simpler 'A' pattern for the bass for the entire song but want both 'A' and 'B' drums. Set all of your markers to 'A' and generate the song. If you like the bass throughout the song, freeze it. You can then restore your 'B' markers and the bass will be frozen in 'A'.
