I have been having a very frustrating issue for a while. Most of my songs are midi files with a lot of work put into them. A few of them cause a problem While playing they skip notes. It is on most tracks not just one. It will be playing along and random notes do not play. I have tried different PPQ settings, adding virtual memory, different synths, different samples. I am puzzled any ideas of what to try?

Most files play just fine. I would say about 1 out of 10 does this.

More simultaneous notes than your synth can handle would be my guess. Lots of notes at once, some don't get played.

No I do not think that is it, the current song is very slow and only has 5 instruments playing and very few notes. I just played the same file on Powertracks and it plays fine with no missed notes. Which is a definate work thru for a live set, since PTPA seems to run smoother than RB so far. I can built any RTs and such in RB and save and open in PTPA.

Still i would love to know what causes it.

It would be good if you could post the files somewhere - thus others may investigate potential causes ...

I'd be glad to help you. Send me a file.PM and I'll give you my email address. BTW is it repeatable? Does it happen when the screen flips?

Same midi drivers? Is midimapper involved?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Sometimes, a slow song with long notes - and also use of the Sustain pedal CC -- can overlap and certain softsynths don't respond fast enough. Although this is usually exhibited as "stuck" notes, I do recall a situation as you describe happening to me with a file when I was using the VSC synth.

PT and RB are so close to being the same MIDi engine and you say it works fine in PT but not in RB. Check the Preferences carefully in PT, jot them down if you have to, then check to see if RB is set up the exact same way. The MIDI Preferences is where I'd start. Also make sure that both are invoking the same softsynth that you are using in PT. Finally, just in case, don't try to have both programs open at the same time when testing this. Don't minimize one when opening the other, Close it down completely first.

I have to say that 2010.5 has glitches on me enough so that I use 2010 for playback. I use PT 12 but I like the "new line every part marker" option.

I've run into this same problem with RB, only with certain songs, but haven't been able to track down the cause.

I checked the setup and PT and Rb are using the same setup, same drivers, and same files and it plays smooth in PT and misses a beat every now and again in RB.

Hello Rob,

Could you send a sample file with the problem to support@ pgmusic.com? We'll see if we can duplicate the problem. Please let us know what your MIDI driver setup is.

I will do this if i can my music computer is not on the net, and my other computer is acting up. But I will work on it this evening. My midi setup is rather simple it is delta midi out of a m-audio 24/96 card, and i use both TTS as my first synth with sampletank as the end result one.

The TTS-1 has some banks that are reserved for user-defined sounds, and this can sometimes cause unexpected behaviour... are there any bank changes in your MIDI file?
