Greetings. Doe anyone have a direct way (or a work-around)to play a song with your best-so-far-Style and then use the Style Picker repeatedly to keep choosing from similar styles to your best-so-far-Style (which have an ask asterisk or caret when you best-so-far-Style is set as the Prototype). The problem is that each time you preview a style from the Style Picker with a double-click that new style now becomes the Prototype style so that before you can try other styles similar to your best-so-far-Style you must re-choose your best-so-far-Style. The idea is to be able to relatively quickly compare your best-so-far-Style with other styles that are close in style to it (i.e those with asterisk or carets beside them when your best-so-far-Style is the Prototype) without having to rechoose your best-so-far-Style to get back to the list of similar styles to your best-so-far-Style.

Inside the Stylepicker window, at the bottom area, is a checkbox, "Audition on Doubleclick" that I often use to audition styles without having to close the Stylepicker window at all. don't like the one you doubleclicked, simply doubleclick another. Helps to first check the Loop box in the main window such that the song will keep repeating. If your chosen original style has been replaced, relax, remember that the song was Saved (or should have been) with the original Style as part of the file. Merely closing the songfile and reselecting it with Open (without saving the closed one) will open it up again with the original style in place. If you have a problem, blame Rharv. --Mac

Hi Peter,
What version of BIAB do you have? On older versions, I used to be able to enter the style picker and simply choose to preview a style. Then if I used "Cancel" to exit style picker, the original style would stay put. I notice on ver. 2010.5, though, that if I use the "play" button to preview a different style while in the style picker, this "played" style becomes the selected style. Is this what you mean?
Regards, Noel

Absolutely !!
With your best-so-far style chosen, click the "prototype" button to make it the default style. Then click on the "if feel and tempo match" box selection. Make sure the style list (left hand side) is set to "all styles." That should narrow down all of the biab styles that have the same feel and tempo as your best-so-far style. You can go down the list (right hand side) and demo each one until you find a bestest-so-far style.
Or,
Make a hybrid out of the right hand side list selection of styles.

If, after auditioning numerous styles you wish to reselect the original style, you can either remember what that style was, or, as Mac suggests, reload the song which will, presumably, have the original style.
But this isn't usually the situation for me. I want to audition styles to find the one I like best. So I start going through styles, don't like the first three, but the forth is really good. But now I'm asking if I'll like the next styles better, so I go on and audition more 12 more. At some point I decide I want to compare the forth and tenth and original style. Now I have a problem.
What I do is use the "favorites" feature in the StylePicker. After clearing it out at the beginning of the session, I make the original and subsequent styles I like a "Favorite". When I'm ready I click "Only Show Favorites" and I have a short list I can work from, including the original.
I would like BIAB (and have made a Wish List request) to create a list for each StylePicker session that would work like this.

Thanks everybody for your help! One way to do what I want is to play my song with my best-so-far-Style. Then open the style picker and choose the "Play" button (top middle of the Style Picker). I can choose whatever style I want but my best-so-far-Style remains the Prototype and so it keeps determining which other styles will get a * or ^ ranking.
