Hi, there. I played BIAB tonight and I couldn't get any sound out of the melody track on any tune. The melody would register on the screen, the bouncing red notes of the melody, but no sound. It's worked perfectly fine for many, many years prior to this. Oh, I was able to get the melody to play when I pulled up the guitar fretboard and forwarded note by note through the melody, but not when generating the entire song. Any idea what might have happened? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The melody has to be midi. Have you checked the midi driver? Some styles are all realtracks so they play as .wav type files and if your midi isn't right and doesn't mix in the melody goes away. One way to check is to load an old all midi style and see what happens. You also click on melody and then set the volume right? Or right click on it and ensure you didn't mute it by accident.
All else fails check your system sounds under midi and then download or find an all midi file and play it outside Band in a Box. Then go in and set up your midi device, ensure the volume is right by clicking on the radio button and spinning it up to at least 100 and give that a go.

If you are using the VSC DXi for MIDI, open its control panel from the MIDI output window and check all the faders for the channels there, one might have gotten turned down. Turn all faders in the DXi control panel all the way up.
If all else fails, try the Options -> Return to Factory Settings button number two, which resets the MIDI synth and Audio settings as well as everytning else.

Thanks, guys. It was a good suggestion to check a non-real track tune. The only thing that played was the drum track. So I went back to factory settings and now I'm not getting any tracks on the non-real track tunes. When playing a real track tune I'm still getting the real track bass, piano, drums, but not the midi melody track.

So your computer has a midi setup problem.
You need to start with system commands and test the midi file outside Band in a Box.
The go into Band in a Box and fix it there. As to midi sounds they are not all equal. For everything but 64 bit systems the VSC Dxi synth is probably the way to go. Under Band in a box menus go to midi setup and check the Vsc Dxi box on the screen. Try midi styles again.

Try a "GM Reset" after pressing the play button. That resets your midi synth, as long as you have one selected in the "midi driver" or DXi box selected.

In essence, you need to see that you have a "default MIDI device" which was WAY easier in XP than Vista or Win 7. This is not true, though, if you use a DXi as suggested. You will, however, need to look at your mixer, and be sure that your MIDI playback device is not muted.
