Saw Burlesque tonight, and have to say it was the best musical since Grease. Cher and Angelia was awsum, and the jazz arrangentments will keep your toes tapping through the whole movie.

One of my favorite shows that I did as a very young pro trumpeter was the lead book of the touring Burlesque show that played Albany for a week. Cute material, especially the routine in the glass bowl. It's too bad I can't play by ear, so I missed seeing it. That's my story and I'm sticking with it...

Christina Aquilera really shows off her vocal chops in this music video from the movie, going from a low "growl" to the really high notes. It's setting is just Christina and a jukebox in an empty bar with her singing "It Must Be Love" in an R&B style. Pretty good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl6qN9Uga-4I'll catch the movie when it hits Netflix, but it looks entertaining. It's interesting to note the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes give it 32% based on 90 "professional" reviews, but the audience gives it 81% based on 15,719 reviews. The movie would probably have done better if the producers had picked someone besides Cher for the part of the "aging singer", since Cher can no longer make a facial expression after all the botox and surgery. Christina is getting pretty high marks for her part though.

I saw her lip-syncing on DWTS last week amazing how the vocals still were very prominent even while she was dancing and her mouth was not moving.
Disclaimer . . . I watch that show only for the music as the orchestra and singers are top drawer. With that said when a guest comes on and they do not use the house orchestra I am suspect as to what is really coming through their sound systems.
