Just wondering with the new strecth engine in biab and the advertised "better sounding realtracks" is it easily possible to tell the difference in finished song sound comapred to say biab 2010.5, or is it more "not really most people would not notice it in a blind test"

In this case, the "better sounding" refers to how the Realtracks have been improved as to the handling of shots, holds, phrasing choices over chords and the ability to better handle the simpler chordings.
So it is not an "audiophile" improvement, although the ability to be able to handle a much wider range of Tempos without sonic degradations is.

I can`t imagine how a timestretched file can sound better than the original file in that tempo. i see that the stretching algorythm itself may be better, but it can never beat the original file. Now that BIAB erases most files, because it stretches wider, I think thsi will produce worse quality. If I won`t use the +/- Button and have these files erased, will it use these files or will it stretch anyway?
I do understand, that the handling of the files (like shots, etc) are better now, but the soundquality in generall, I don`t see that. But then again I`m not yet having BB 2011, can`t wait till it gets here.

You can leave a box checked in prefs and use the old files if you want.
The program does not need them though and I think the only thing you will discover is the ability to save the disk space. You won't notice an improvement in sound by keeping them.
An older system (slower drive and CPU) may benefit in the way of performance (speed of generating), however most systems will not show a difference there either.
It's hard to believe but a lot of ears have agreed.

Sandra, I agree it's not intuitively obvious but the tracks do sound better to me at least. Now, as to your comment about stretched files vs original files I don't think that's what the comparison is with this. I believe there is only one original RT file per any given tempo. Those other +/- files were already stretched and included with your original RT's to help with different tempo's. It's those previously stretched files that you no longer need because the new stretching system does it much better. If you want to test your ears, compare a RT track in Biab at the exact original tempo of that track and then do one 10 or 15 beats faster or slower. That will use a previously stretched track using the old method. If you don't hear any difference then the worst is you won't hear any difference now using the new method but most of us hear an improvement. Then of course there's the vastly improved amount of tempo stretch you can get now. I've done some changing up or down 50 or 60 beats and they sound great.
There's also been comments about the generation times, my machine is getting a bit old, P4 2.8, 2 gigs ram, XP SP3. Some say it's a bit slower but it's actually a bit faster on my machine. Who knows why, just different setups I guess.

I have been experimenting and doing A/B semi-blindfolds with the thing since it was first introduced to us for the beta testing.
So far, I cannot find any fault with the new stretch engine at all.
Consider that Acid has been able to do the same for years, with the same overall great quality of audio. Then came Melodyne, ditto. Now comes Band in a Box.

Hmm, that`s an interesting point. I thought there were, like say 4 different original recordings of the same file in 4 different tempos.
But who cares, as long as it sounds decent. Welcome to the Magic World of PGMusic;-))

I got back a HUGE amount of space and I can't hear a difference, well, maybe everything is better, but they improved the phrasing and some other stuff so...
