Hi folks, does someone have BIAB 2011 running under Windows XP and tried the shrink RealtTacks feature? I read on a tool tip in the new features video, that one should not shrink RealTracks on a "slow machine (Windows XP)". Windows XP is set in parantheses there. I don't understand how "Windows XP" is connected to "slow machine". One can run Windows XP on fast machines as well (2GHz dualcore AMD Opteron in my case) So, is this just an unfortunate phrase or does the new time stretching engine work on Windows Vista/7 only?
Cheers, Andi

you can try the V2 first. Go to the realtracks settings menu (ctrl + click realtrack icon (sax)) and tick both--use speed up generation of realtracks and --high quality tempo/pitch stretching--. Untic --use +/- Realtracks for generation --. It does take longer, depending on how much I'm changing the tempo, but it's still working fast enough to suit me. I have a 1.8 duo running XP SP3 3meg.
Later, Jim
I'd be completely happy if I had just one more guitar.

I haven't found any problems so far with XP. I am running a 2005 AMD Athlon 64 bit processor with 1.5Mb. memory and with a CPU speed of 2.4GHz. It is likely that owners of earlier machines installed XP as an upgrade to older operating systems and may consequently experience problems.

It was mentioned that you should change nothing and try generating an all Realtracks style while watching CPU usage. If it didn't stay right at the top end, near 100 percent, and you had processing power left over, you were safe to dump the RealTracks files that are redundant and go from there.
I suspect that there is a huge difference between a Quad Core running Win 7 and an older XP type system with minimum specs.

Try what Jim says here, the program will then run with the stretching engine but does not delete the unnecessary realtracks +/- files.
Once you have ascertained that it runs okay on your system you can go to the Realtracks prefs and hit the button that erases the unneeded files.
FWIW it works just fine on my XP machine here as well, AMD turion w/1g XP SP3.

I have a P4 2.8 with 2 gigs running XP with no problems. I think the problem is with the previous gen like a friend of mine who's running XP on a PIII with 512mb ram which is the max. He has whatever the first version of Biab and PT was with Real Drums but no RT's and I brought my HD over a year ago to test the RT's on his system and he could generate 1 or 2 tracks with the drums but very slowly and any more than that it glitches. He's in no hurry to upgrade his system and is very happy with the RD's and the rest midi using the Forte DXi. Obviously this new version would be a waste on a system like that.

Right. XP will run more efficiently than Vista and 7 on the same hardware. It is just a shortcut to define a system's age by it's OS. I run a quad core on XP and avoided years of Vista issues.
(Having said that, my next PC may use 7)
Finally, I have found a cool signature with sufficiently dry humor.

Yep, it's getting time for us to upgrade our PC's. Time flies doesn't it? My system was the latest/greatest when I built it 4 years ago but not any more. Allanah has a test file I was messing around with that has 5 RT tracks using something like 10 or 12 different RT's in different parts of the song plus the RD track. I can open it in Real Band as a Biab file but it took my machine a full 5 1/2 minutes to generate all the tracks. Biab will generate it in about 20 seconds. She has a Win 7 quad core with 6 or 8 gigs of ram and she told me it opens that same file in exactly 55 seconds in RB and just a few seconds in Biab. For me, everything works fine, no glitches but slooooow compared to the new machines. I was thinking a new machine might be twice as fast as mine but no, it's five times as fast.

Bob, You've seen Allanah?
I guess I have been away too long. How is she?

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

She always shows up at a certain time of year kinda like Santa
Last I heard from her, she wasn't complaining; but then again she probably wouldn't. Wish she'd come back and hang out more often.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
