Here's a problem I posted some time ago. No one had an answer, and no one had the same experirence. Now it's two or more versions of BIAB later and I still have the same problem.
It is: Whenever I click anywhere in BIAB, my mouse pointer, after successfully executing the click, instantly appears at the far right of the screen, half way up. I then need to move the pointer back to the work area. Very disconcerting at the least.
Here is some info and observations:
- Has done this on BIAB for several versions of BIAB. - Does this on no other program - and not RealBand. - Since started, I have done a clean install of XP. - Since started, I have a new mouse and driver (Microsoft to Logitech) - If I Return (most) to factory settings, problem goes away, for a while. The starts again. - If I Return (most) to factory settings, problem goes away. If I immediately load the just-previous preferences, problem returns.
Any solutions? Or things I can do to troubleshoot?
Thanks.

Latest drivers for mouse? Monitor? Graphics card?
Try different display settings. Right click on desktop and choose Properties. Then choose Settings tab and try some different quality and/or resolution values.
Never have seen that problem here on XP or Vista.

Hi, I guess most of us are also on either Vista or now Windows 7, although I can't say I have ever experienced that problem in whatever op. system or mouse I have used in any version BIAB. Is it a USB mouse? Have you tried it on another Laptop or PC with biab? Maybe it is an actual hardware or port problem. My microsoft remote mouse only plays up when the battery is low and it sometimes affects the screen until I change the battery. Sorry not much help. Jeff

Ideas:
Check the Control Panel, Mouse setting, Do you have it checked that the mouse will move to the OK button in a dialog box? Also try slowing down the pointer motion speed.
Try another brand mouse. Try this mouse in another USB port. Test this mouse on another computer...
Is there a network card, or worse, a USB network adapter? Try removing that to see if it makes a difference.
Download and run the DPC Latency Checker (Google finds it immediately). See if you have a misbehaving driver on that system.

Thanks for responses. It took a little time to get to all your suggestions. Here's what I know:
Here's a slight clarification of the problem. First the problem occurs on "double click", not "click" as originally reported. Second, when I say "far right of the screen, half way up", I do mean screen, not window. So if the BIAB window is reduced to less than full screen, the pointer lands on the right edge of the screen.
Keep in mind that this problem happens only with BIAB, no other program. And when I do a BIAB Return to Factory Settings the problem goes away for a while. This at least suggests that the hardware and drivers, for that time, are able to work successfully with BIAB.
Rachael - All drivers now up to date. Video card was a not quite. Now all are. No change. - Tried different screen resolutions and qualities. No change.
Jeff - Both the previous wired MS Explorer 3.0 mouse and newer Logitech wireless laser MX1100 are USB. Have not (and cannot) try on other computer with BIAB.
Matt - Fiddled with Control Panel as suggested. I do have the the "Move pointer to default button" checked. No fiddling resolves the problem.
- Tried different USB ports. No help.
- I don't think I have a network card (Just a home computer. No networking going on except for DSL "network adapter")
- Ran DPC - all short green bars 100-300 usec - suggesting no apparent drive problems.
So, any other ideas, or has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks.

Sorry if I missed this but did you try unchecking "Move pointer to default button"? I remember having a problem a long time ago with that enabled. Wayne,

Hi John - This is a desktop. I did a clean install of XP after the problem started and the problem existed after. So I don't think any bad-ware can be blamed. I also do quick scans daily and full scans from time to time.

Stumped. Since it's only on BIAB, you should call PG Support. Do let us know if you find the solution.

Gee Kelso I agree must be really frustrating, I can't understand it at all. I've used Biab for many years with XP and a variety of mice and never had that problem and coz your problem only happens with biab it is a strange one. As Matt said maybe PG with all their experience can throw some light on it. I guess it could be a combination of bios/graphics/driver problems. How old is your PC?, Which DXI are you using?
I did have one strange W7 problem [not mouse related] at one time that was cured for some reason by updating the graphics card driver which PG suggested. Anyway good luck keep us informed. Jeff

I have a sort of this problem with my (bluetooth) Apple Magic Trackpad. I used to work with Standard Bandinabox 2010 and 2010a without troubles. Today my first Biab hard disk has arrived with Windows Biab audiophile 2011. As soon as I turn on the external box my pointer gets crazy. If I connect a wired mouse everything is OK. I have tried different USB inputs for the external Biab Box, close and far from the case without success. I have two other external boxes I use for back-ups and I can connect them without any problem. Looks like the Biab box has got a radio interference source. The problem occurs only with the Biab box and I have the Trackpad since many months.

In kelso's case, I suspect the Video card drivers.
See if there are any updates issued for your Video driver by the mfr of same, on their website only.

Thanks, Rachael - but the problem exists with both my previous wired MS Explorer 3.0 mouse and newer Logitech wireless laser MX1100 - both USB. Troubleshooting the wireless mouse (subject of article)does not hold much promise. Plus I cam make everything perfect, for a while, when I do a BIAB Return to Factory Settings. I would think that a mouse system problem would not correct itself, for a while, due to such action. Especially with with two totally different mouse systems. But - can't say that with certainty.

My music machine is packed for a gig so can't look for you. Is there by chance some odd setting in the BIAB prefs that tells the mouse to park itself on the side? Look very carefully through the prefs.

Wow, never heard of that and it's never happened to me either. Since you've tried all the obvious things, I would keep trying different mice. Find a PC repair shop that also sells used PC's and pick up some different mice cheap. A shop like that probably has other different used pieces too. Anything that can be replaced cheaply I would replace. Video cards, modems, network cards, the A drive, whatever. I'm thinking about swap meets that go on around here on the weekends. One I go to occasionally has tons of used stuff like this in bins for a buck or two each.

Well, it must be me. After twice reporting this problem when I had my old XP computer, I have since got a new W7x64 system, and just got a new monitor, and the problem persists.
No one in the past was able to solve it - I don't expect anyone to now. I'm just saying... it can't be the computer, monitor, mouse, drivers, OS... It must be me. That's it.
'nless you got an idea...

You said you now have Windows 7, but you didn't say whether it was a new computer or just an upgraded OS. It wouldn't make sense for a problem like that to transcend different machines. Are you using the same mouse or a different mouse? Have you tried a different mouse? Double check the snap-to settings also, because that is a setting that moves the mouse after you click.
Is your mouse wireless or wired? I have a Logitech that has a little USB transmitter. I did find that it had problems when it was plugged into the USB port right next to the eSATA port. I moved it to a different USB port and it worked fine.
Just a few things to think about.
