I'm using the latest build (313) 2011 and am curious to know what is going on. I've created a simple song with everything muted except bass and drums. On playback I will hear at seemingly random places, once or twice (or so) per entirety, a quarter note that is neither bass(?) nor drums, out of nowhere. It appears to be within the key or chord at the moment though.
I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this and will probably delete the file and start anew.
I've returned BIAB to default settings as well. Any idea what's causing this?
Thanks, DH

Please post which style you are using so others can test it out as well.

John, thanks for the reply. The Style is *COC~TAIL (under Jazz).
I should add that I've deleted the file in question and created a new one using that same Style. This new tune seems not to have that problem.
Bear in mind I'm still pretty new to this. If this is a tested and tried style I can well imagine I caused problems with all the changes I made while creating the tune that had this original issue.

If you use note entry it's possible to insert a note about 10 or more ledger lines above or below a staff without knowing. Has happened to me. Could only edit the note via the midi event window.

If you are using RealDrums, it can be narrowed down to the bass line. I have found a few styles, COC~TAIL and JAZSIMP to name a few, that has a periodic bass note way out of range. It sounds like a random piano or guitar note way up in the register. I don't know why this is present but it is. Perhaps it is how the synth handles the note. Both VSC/DXi and Forte have exhibited this. I don't know if it would occur using an external synth. Next time it occurs, tell us a bit more about the song. What chord is it occurring on? Chord sequence surrounding the problem? Part marker color in which it occurs? Tempo? Key? This is for our knowledge base. If it is a glitch, it would help if you would freeze the bass track and send the file to support@pgmusic.com indicating which measure number the note occurs. Hopefully they can fix the problem. If you want to use COC~TAIL in a lot of songs and the problem continues, there is a simple way you can edit the offending pattern in the style. Of course, it needs to be identified first. R

Rachel, well, from what you wrote that certainly seems to be the issue I have.
If I detect it in the new file I created, I'll upload here and let the good folks at BIAB deal with it.
John, I've done what you just described and was forced to delete those notes in question. I'm learning.
Thanks!

OK, here is the file that I undeleted. I played it and the note that played that shouldn't have was around measure 16 or 17. I played the file again and this time the unwanted note appeared during the intro. Whatever the cause of this glitch is, it unwanted sound seems to move around. I uploaded the file to my web site ... http://members.home.nl/davehorne/misc/LadyBGood.SGUThanks! DH

Dave,
See if you can reproduce the problem and then Freeze the offending track. To Freeze, right click on the part button, choose Freeze track and save the file. Then post it with the info as to where it is occurring. I tried your file a couple of times and did not hear anything.
What synth are you using?

Freezing and reposting is a good idea and sure helps to identify the problem.
I played the song a few times and, yes, there are a few stray notes interspersed that do sound odd. Checking on the style reveals quite a few bass patterns with stray notes in the G6 region. It appears that such patterns better should have these notes transposed down an octave or two ... or three for that matter.

I'm using the sound card in my computer, not an external synth per se. I've tried this on my desktop computer and my wife's laptop, both exhibit this issue. (The card in my desktop is a SigmaTel High Def Audio CODEC. The laptop just says High Definition Audio Device with MS as the manufacturer - it's a Dell laptop and this laptop is my primary computer for BIAB use.)
Is this an issue that BIAB is already looking into? Is this a BIAB problem per se ... or just a conflict with my sound card and is just my bad luck?
I froze the bass track and the playback on the desktop did not have that issue.
_Should I get in the habit of freezing the bass tracks to avoid this issue in the future?_
I've uploaded the new frozen bass file (overwriting the older one). It would seem to be pointless now to pursue this further ... ?
Thanks! DH

If I understand what's being experienced here, I've had this same thing happening for quite some time.....just here and there for various tunes. I tried just about everything (and reported it out on the forum two or three times quite some time ago). By happenstance in my case, I found that if I muted the melody and solo tracks, this problem totally goes away for those particular tunes. By freezing everything after doing the melody and soloist muting, it doesn't happen for those particular tunes again. These were all situations where I was using RT and RD as backup rhythm support entities.
I just got tired of "monkeying" with it and found the above worked.....I've assumed all along that some fix will address this eventually,
Cecil
I have Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

Seemingly it's a glitch with this particular style. You may identify offending patterns via the StyleMaker and have them deleted or edited to your liking.
You may as well report this particular style to Support and have PG Music take a look at its style.

Dave,
Keep us posted on what support says.
The stuff about muting melody/soloist and/or freezing making the problem go away is sure bizarre.
