Just got a Ketron SD2 and having problems setting it up. It sounds fine apart from the drums which seem to be mixed up. I get an odd sequence of drum-ish sounds on the count-in and then when the song starts I get all sorts of strange percussion sounds. The other insturments sound fine. I've downloaded the KETRON patch file from the PG Music website and saved it in the bb folder.

Anyone come across this before? Any suggestions?

Using the Coyote DXi works fine.

I am on BIAB 2011 (312)
Windows 7 (64 bit)

I use a Ketron SD4 and had the same problem. You could try this, it worked for me: turn everything off. turn on the Ketron before starting up BIAB. When I did this after restarting my computer and then starting up BIAB the Ketron worked fine. Also, you may want to reinstall the Ketron Patch from PG Music first. Just a thought. Hope it works for you.

My computer is off but I may know what the issue is but you'll have to hunt cause i may not use the correct terminology. BIAB has a feature to send MIDI chords to a Vocal Harmonizer. If this accidentally got set to channel 10, which is the normal GM drum channel it'll be sending these notes that will correspond to some drum sounds. Just check in Prefs for this setting.

Well I reset to factory settings, switched everything off and then on again and I still get the strange sounds.

**The Patch Map itself has nothing to do with making the sounds happen, it is just there as a convenient way for us to view and be able to select all the available banks and patches from a list. The SD2 goes into GM mode when the power switch is cycled, meaning each time you turn it on it should be ready to play any GM file, drums included.

Hi CliveR,

In your BiaB, at tha near top of the screen where the instruments are listed, what COLOR is the "Drums" lettering showing? Yellow = MIDI and would indicate drum parts being sent to the Ketron. Green means that the Drums you hear are RealDrums and have nothing to do with the MIDI stuff.

Even though you have performed the Factory Reset, an excellent idea, BTW, it may be that the Output Chords is still turned on. Visit Prefs -> OutputCh. inside BiaB and mke sure that "Output Chords?" at the top left is not checked.

If still no joy, check Prefs -> Channels and make sure that Drums are set to MIDI Channel 10 in the first column.

Drums are yellow
Prefs / OutputCh - Output chords is unchecked
Prefs / Channels -

Bass 2
Piano 3
Drums 10
Guitar 7
Strings 6
Melody 4
Soloist 8
Thru Chn 5

Still the same odd sounds being played with the tune.

Those channels are the default values and are correct. Still, try muting each instrument (right-click on the instrument button / mute) one by one to see if you can isolate which instrument is causing the odd sounds.

Ok. I have a simple tune (Miles Davis Tune Up) using JAZCOOL.STY

Bass only - The bass pattern is there but on top is a bunch of other almost random sounds: a harp, a rattle sound, and others. Their pitch is correct but they shouldn't be there.

Piano only - the chords are there but on top is a high tremelo sound that comes and goes.

Drums only - the count in to the tune has the clicks but also a rattle sound and what sound like low tom-toms! The tune itself has wrong drums. It hasn't the simple hi-hat and cymbal rhythm it should - lots of snare drum and others.

Guitar only - As with the piano the guitar chords are there but with other random guitarish sounds.

Weird !!!!!!!

Is this a song you built from scratch or is it a midi file that you impoted and then also enabled styles?

Built into the style. Audition different midi styles.

As to the count in it's in Opts Prefs, you can change it, eliminate it, whatever.

As rudimentary as it sounds, have you tried simply turning off the Ketron, then back on?

I had a similar glitch just this morning, and that is what worked for me.

He did that; see his second post above. [First thing to try, I concur.]

the Ketron won't make any sound without midi hitting it, and if it's drum like sounds must be on ch10.

Unless I was using the soloist track I'd erase it.

I'd then set the midi monitor to catch everything coming on ch10 and watch. If the solo track is muted and the melody track is muted, keep going. Once you figure out which track it's on it's going to simplify things.

Ok. Partially solved. Cable problem.

I replaced the usb / midi cable with separate midi cables going through a Cakewalk UA-25EX and the output from the headphone jack is fine. Not the setup I'm looking for but a step forward !!!!

Thanks to those who tried to help.
