Ok....still wrestling with this program in trying to enter notes in the editable notation mode. I a good whiz at finale printmusic and it was suggested I make a part there first and import it into BIAB's melody section. Has anybody here done that? I need to know about 1st/2nd ending repeats and DS's with codas, etc. Do I make a matching format like that on the finale one with 2 bars in front or do I have to make it "long",etc???

thanks for any help.

Hi Phil,

If you go to this we page ...

http://www.pgmusic.com/bbdemovideos1.htm

... and scroll down, near the bottom you'll find a video that explains how to enter notation. This might help.

My understanding of midi is that if you create a midi file in Finale, it will be a "long" file because midi doesn't save repeats, etc.

Lastly, if you go to the BIAB folder under your start menu and have a look in the BIAB manual, there's a whole section on repeats and endings. In my manual (ver. 2010.5), this information begins on page 344.

Regards,
Noel

Hello Phil,

If you save a MIDI file from Finale, you can open it into the Band-in-a-Box melody track by going to the Melody menu | Edit Melody Track | Import Melody from MIDI file.

When I need to make a melody I use Sibelius, I used to use Encore. Like you, I find it faster to enter midi info with a real notation program. If you are proficient with Finale that's way to go. As far as 1st and 2nd endings, codas etc... IMHO it's still faster to write it out. Heck all you are doing in a notation program is cut and paste. Once you write out the melody once, you just copy whatever else you need. As far as dumping in into BIAB I believe someone suggested a link to go to. I learned it from trial and error many years ago. I find it simpler just to write the whole song out. When it comes to midi melodies and codas I always end up with something funky happening with my melody. It could be something I'm doing wrong. I usually don't have any problems if I'm just doing repeats. The best way to do that is just write your song as 1 time through, load your melody and then change it to how many choruses you want. BIAB will ask (at least it used to) if you want to copy the melody to match the number of choruses. I hope this helps, I'm far from an expert and I'm sure other BIAB Ninja's are out there with an even better answer than mine.
