quite a few of the fantastic Realtracks are of no use to me simply because ,the guitar (for example) plays unessential notes (non-chord notes) that are NOT required in the composition or song. For example, yesterday I was writing a progression in a minor key. One of the chords was E major. In BB, the note F sharp would be played as an 'auxiliary note' whenever the chord E major would be played. This is very ineffective, especially in classical music (which I write). I won't go through classical harmony rules here as it would take too long, suffice is to say: please update BB so that chord progressions can be played back EXACTLY AS WRITTEN, without any embellishments, unessential notes, etc, whatsoever. That means, the chord of E major must be played back as a chord made with the notes E,G sharp and B. -Nothing else- At least, the option should be there. I can do that on my Yamaha Tyros 2, I'd like to be able to do that on BB as well. Also it would be good to have an option to have the program store a list of chords that the user invents. Even a cluster of 7 different notes. Thanks

Look under Edit and check 'Jazz down the chords'. That may help. Later, Ray

Doesn't help a lot of the time Ray. Some of the real tracks are just far too busy and cluttered.

This wish pops up regularly here on the wihlist. It's not only an issue with RealTracks - it's a general design issue. Quite a few years back Peter mentioned he would look after such an option. To date it hasn't been realized, though.

For this to be done, we need to know which specific realtracks you are using that requre a 'simplified' version. For example, we have done it for Jazz Swing Acoustic Bass. If you have specific requests (name of RT), please enter them in this thread.

Cape Breton Reel, Cape Breton jig. Both of these real tracks need a simple no-nonsense vamp that will work at faster tempos.

hi Ray, unfortunately this only works for jazz style progressions... i.e. if the chords have been written as 7ths or as altered chords ( sharp fifth, etc).
Instead, I am talking about chords that have NOT been written with any extensions or alteration. Unfortunately, this is an old BIAB problem with the Realtracks. With the midi tracks it works better but frankly is a bummer for me not to be able to use many of the Realtracks because of the problem mentioned.
I am forced to try a limited bunch and write down the ones that will work best, but it would really be about time for PG Music to give us the option to play the progressions with ONLY the chord notes, as written. My Yamaha arranger does that job perfectly. BIAB always seem to throw in there some rather inelegant or even ugly notes.
I am forced to write music on the Yamaha and to make the final version of the song with BIAB and it's Realtracks, rather than writing music with BIAB directly, because these random notes are too disruptive to my workflow.
I mean, just playing the chords exactly as written..... why is that so hard for BIAB. Also, by doing that, the melody is more effective, since usually most alterations and embellishments are written in the melody....

Peter, I can only say that about 50 per cent of every Realtracks or Realstyle I load, always ends up not playing the chords as written, i.e. the patters played back contains notes that are not part of the chords, even with the 'jazz down chords' and after unticking 'allow embellishments' from the Bar settings, or I hear strange passing notes ( the other day I entered another minor progression and the pattern played back had a b2 note in it, yet the pattern should have been that of the natural minor, not the Phrygian mode).
I frankly never use any jazz Realtracks as these are far too 'busy' for my taste, i.e. the problem mentioned is only emphasized.
I will post back with some exact Realtracks name here, also possibly upload an audio file too.
All others users, please post here the names of the Realtracks when you get into that particular problem.
Thanks

I cited a similar problem a few weeks ago and keep having these issues. I'm currently working on a project using a piano soloist track called Pop Vancouver feat. Miles Black. Some great playing but a couple of undesirable passing notes throughout the song.
For example, in one bar on beat 1, I have a Bb chord and on bar 3 a Bb7. Right before the chord change, BB throws in an 'A' passing note which clashes with the minor 7th. In this instance, I simply do not want the major 7th feel. I regenerated the piano track a number of times, but couldn't prevent the major 7th.
In my previous post, Matt Finley and Bob Harvey suggested more specificity when entering chords. So in the example above, if I don't want the A, I simply changed the Bb chord to a Bb7. I like the transition from Bb to a Bb7, but so what; I've eliminated the undesirable note. This method could help in other instances.
I'm sure we'll see timely improvements in the next upgrade.
Percy

Peter, here's one: realtrack 367 (background dreamy) , which plays Amaj7 when I only wrote A , even after using 'jazz down chords' and with 'allow embellishments' unticked. The style used is PSYK2 (psyk rock)

It would be great if all the solo piano tracks had simplified versions that could be used for quiet meditative ballads without suddenly going off into an unneccessary embellishment that overpowers and interrupts any vocals you add.

Well, it depends on what style you`re using. In jazz this is the way its supposed to be. In a jazzband the pianist will interpret chords differntly from a guitarist. The chord you play also depends on where your fingers are at that moment.
It makes no sense to play exactly the written tension, lets say C13, when C9 is nearer on the fretboard. You need to think about a good voice leaing too! Playing exactly the given chords usually leads into a bad voice leading (top notes jumping around from high to low notes etc).
I love the way BIAB interprets the jazzchords. It comes close to having a real player. Its good for me and good for my students. I wouldn`t change it. If you want things exactly the way written you need to use Midi.

There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
