Was there a consensus on which anti-viral programs play well with BIAB? I have Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security...it will expire in a few days. I would like to find the program with the least interference ... and if it was free it wouldn't hurt my feelings...Ha!

Several of us use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free.
I supplement that by running the free Malwarebytes.
Many here also like AVG or AVAST. One of those - I forget which; have tried both - made some sort of switch that caused me to look elsewhere, and I found Microsoft Security Essentials. It runs with no effects.

Avast! is another free one that works well.
Like Matt, I keep a current copy of Antimalwarebytes antimalware (mbam) on hand for any emergencies. It's great for finding/fixing anything that does get by..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I have always used the free version of Avira. Check out http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus . Never had any problems, and it's very reliable.

I can't remember whether it was AVG or Avast, but I dropped it because they wanted me to do something to renew it that I didn't like. Sorry, it's been a few years and I forgot why. Maybe one of you knows?

It was AVG, that was the reason I went to Avast! too. I think they made it a real pain to get the free version, and pretty much hid it from their menus and tried to force a sale. They may have since changed that.
Avast! has been reliable here so far. Combined with Antimalwarebytes it is good coverage. Just scan with Antimalwarebytes once in a while to make sure Avast! is keeping the machine clean. Takes about 4-5 minutes here. Been quite a while since it found anything on my machine, but I've seen it salvage some pretty well hijacked machines.

Matt, on MS security esentials, when you say it's free..... do they then get in your face every day to buy the uptown whooptidoo version which will do handsprings while it adds x y and z to your protection? Just curious. I have a near pathological aversion to marketing from corporations. I excommunicated TV in 1983.
Laptop PCs are the new TV seems to me. Maybe the macs do it too mine is a G5 desktop and the only marketing I've noticed is within I tunes. And I'd have to click on a link to actually view the blather. But they never bother me with popups and warnings of dire consequences if I don't BUY NOW!!

Nope nothing to buy with security essentials. I use the same setup as Matt & others here. So far I like it and does not get in my way and seems to play nice. Brian

Brian is correct.
Ron, I agree with you about this, and AVG started nagging so I dropped it. Granted, that was after using the free version for way more than a year. I don't think I've reached a year yet with Microsoft's product, so I hope it stays as it is. As far as I know, there is no paid version anyway.

As others have stated, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVAST and AVARI are probably the top three free anti virus apps.
I use Symantec Endpoint Protection (formerly Norton's) and have had no trouble with BiaB.
My daughter's laptop has Kaspersky and we're happy with that too.
Another vote here for MalwareBytes. Best scanner I've used.

My new PC with Win 7 64 bit came with AVG and MalewareBytes preinstalled by the guy I bought it from and they seem to be working fine. I was using Avast and Spybot on my old box for years. When I went to download Security Essentials the screen said to uninstall all other a/v software first. Did you guys do that or will SE install properly without uninstalling AVG and MB?

SE runs fine along with Avast! here on Win7, don't know about AVG. I just never removed Security Essentials and have never had a problem.

I have installed Avast and have malwarebytes...so far so good. I had Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security and have noticed a difference in how quickly my computer now handles some processes with Avast. Thanks for all the good information and recommendations. I have had no problems with BIAB/RealBand...it is great to have access to all your experience and knowledge which everyone shares so freely!

Rharv, what I was asking is should I uninstall AVG first before installing SE?. The M/S website says it will run fine with other A/V software, it's just they don't want any other A/V software installed while SE is being installed. Afterwards it's ok to install other A/V software. Did you do that? Do you guys think I really have to uninstall what I already have, install SE, then reinstall my other A/V?
