Hi Everyone
I was hoping when I upgraded to BB 2011, that these 2 audio recording bugs would have finally been fixed. But still in BB 2011 for Windows. And I have lots of other Windows Music Software that records audio and BB is the only program that has these bugs, so I do not use BB for Audio Recording often. Since I just export to another program when I want to record audio.

Audio Recording Bug 1. Opening the Audio Meters Crashes BB. So you have to reboot the PC. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not.

Audio Recording Bug 2. Even with a USB Audio Device selected in the BB Setup. Sometimes BB simply will not recognize the audio device exists.

I am using Vista with User Account Off. But the same 2 Audio Recording Bugs happen on my XP Laptop also.

Be nice if they could be fixed. If every other music software maker can get their software to have audio meters that do not crash the PC and can find USB Audio Devices, I think BB should do the same.

No idea if Real Band does the same. I do not use it at all.

Thanks

Never seen either one of those issues in all the years I've used BIAB & RB

I've never seen either of these either. Maybe BIAB is conflicting with some of your other audio software. Try disabling the startup entries for those and see if the problem continues. If all works well, enable one at a time and you'll find the culprit.

If you use a USB device and do not have that device plugged in and recognized by BiaB *before starting up Biab* - the program will not be able to find the USB device properly. This is because BiaB takes a look at available devices each time it starts up - and if the device is not active then, BiaB can't find it.

Close down BiaB (not miminized, but closed down completely) before plugging in the USB device. Then wait for the System to recognize that device.

I have other programs that don't work that way, they are able to recognize and use USB on the fly, but this is the way BiaB works.

C'mon man. Do you see any other posts on this forum complaining of this problem? No? What makes you think it's a bug in the program then? If you see 10 or 20 people on a company forum complaining about the same thing, it might be a bug but if you don't...then it's in your setup, tell us the details and we can help you fix it.

I had the meters-causing-a-crash problem in my older versions of PTPA and BiaB on XP. It was something that developed and did not originally occur -- never could figure out the underlying problem. With the latest versions running on Vista, it hasn't reoccurred.

"Drivers, Drivers, Drivers..."

Have you visited the Support Section of the manufacturer's website for your sound device, located, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for you sound device?

Hi Everyone,
I finally posted about the problem because I have never been able to figure out why it happens only in BB. I have no idea if anyone else has the problem, that is why I posted about it.

BB does do things differently. Why should one have to turn off User Account Control to use BB in Vista. No other music software cares whether User Account Control is on or off.

Yes, I always have the latest drivers. And I know you can not plug in a USB Audio Device if BB is already open. Why I do not know. Other software lets you plug USB Audio Software after it is open.

So since the 2 bugs occur on both my Vista and XP PCs, and happen only in BB, it sure seems to be a program bug in BB itself.

I like to do a scratch vocal or guitar in BB, so I can playback and audio while making changes to the chord progression in BB.

Maybe its Real Band causing the audio recording conflict. Hard to troubleshoot because sometimes BB recording audio works and I never get any error messages when it does not work, just BB crashes or locks up completely.

I recently picked up a 2nd USB Audio Device, so when I have time I can see if BB does the same thing with that USB Audio Device also.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

PG Music programs do not write to the registry at all. There are no registry entries that refer to BIAB.This is a good thing but sometimes can cause issues.Biab continually writes to it's own files. The UAC does not like this action which it shouldn't. That's what it's for. All you need to do is set Vista to run BIAB & Real Band as Administrators. This tells Windows that it's OK for it to write files on your computer.

If you say so!

Hi Silver, Bob
No have put my specs up yet. Have not had time. Been busy recording and composing all day using other software programs.

Will post specs tomorrow. Did found one bad audio driver installed on my PC I did not know was even on it. ASIO For All V2, the worst audio driver ever made in my opinion. I have never owned a PC or a piece of music software that would work with any version of ASIO For All, but I know some like it. I deleted it. So that may be what was hanging BB.

Will test BB again tomorrow. I have to eat dinner now.

Thanks for posting.

In the time it took you to write your last post you could have easily told us what audio interface or soundcard you're using. Too busy recording and composing all day huh? Now you have to eat dinner. Right. I'm sure the producer has to have the soundtrack for scene 12 by tomorrow morning or you're off the project.
ASIO4ALL is highly recommended for all audio programs if you're having problems with a given interface or soundcard manufacturers own ASIO. It works fine but of course you're the pro here, it's the worst audio driver ever made. Whatever, dude.
