Hello All; I've been experimenting with EDIROL HQ (great sounds) and I finally mastered it's use, including implementing Control Changes. Then suddenly - POOF- the changes stopped happening (upon activating PT.) If I bring up the EVENT BOX and click the TRANSMIT button, the change will show on the EDIROL window, but once I activate PT (2011), the EDIROL settings go back to default, essentially zeros or midpoints. The important point is that it used to work, but it doesn't work anymore. BTW, it's the same situation in Real Band. Additionally, Control Changes work just fine with ARIA (Garritan JABB).
Has anyone had this experience with EDIROL HQ or any other softsynth (VST)? Any input or constructive comment will be deeply appreciated and may help save what's left of my hair!

I gave up on using PT with softsynths because it does not control them. Won't even send panning codes. The RVSC is the only one it works with.

Make sure "Send realtime controllers" is enabled in the MIDI Out area of preferences
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

rharv: Thanks for your reply. I made sure the "Send Realtime Messages" radio button was turned on in the MIDI OUT window, but unfortunately it doesn't make any difference. As I stated in my original post, the process works OK with my other important synth (ARIA/Garritan) and clicking the 'TRANSMIT' button in the EVENT BOX sends the command to EDIROL, but PT2011 is not sending commands to EDIROL during realtime processing. I'm beginning to think that a glitch has developed in the EDIROL software but ROLAND no longer offers technical support. I've tried uninstalling the EDIROL software and re-instaling, but NG. Any other thoughts you (or anyone) have, I'm willing to try anything.
Thanks again for your suggestion, mespo55

How do you have the synth set up? Is it the default DXi synth? Or on another DXi port?
Is there both a DXi and VSTi version? If so try both versions; sometimes one works better than the other due to the coding used inside the synth..

rharv: I've found a answer of sorts; I set the Default DXi/VSTi Synth to ORCHESTRAL and checked the Re-Route MIDI Playback to default DXi/VSTi Synth radio button. This configuration allows MIDI commands to be sent to the EDIROL synth. What I lose is the ability to manually play/record tracks directed to other synths because all channels go through EDIROL under this setup. In order to play or record a track directed to another synth (such as ARIA) I have to uncheck the radio button, record the track, re-check the button and save. Activating playback (with the button checked) plays all the correct tracks with the correct patches and responds to all MIDI commands. I'm still working on it!!!
I'll keep you posted with any other discoveries if you're interested.

Method I use when I run into this -
I select one of the MIDI tracks I want to go to the default synth, right click it and select "Port" Then scroll down and change the port to port #17 (labeled DXi/VSTi synth 1) Next assign that port to the desired synth (in your case the Edirol) This is done in the dropdown menu offered up right away. Use the top slot in the group of four that pop up.
After clicking OK, right click the track again and then click "Assign all midi tracks to DXi synth 1" (or something similar, I'm not looking at it right now)
Then change your default synth in the Preferences - MIDI devices area to the one you want to 'play'. That should work. Existing tracks should be forced to a new instance of the Edirol, and new tracks will be heard thru the new default synth. The DXi synth port assignment over rides the 'reroute all MIDI command' here.
Another option is converting MIDI to audio tracks to preserve the sound (but keeping the MIDI tracks in case of adjustments later).
