I use the audiophile version of BB and have it on a separate drive as supplied by PG Music. I keep my song files on my computer's hard drive in the Music Library of Windows 7. Underneath all of my BB sub file headings is a series of files beginning with '1688'- 1688.PRJ, 1688_BKP.REC etc. There are about fifty of them and in the properties, it says they are Data Base Files.
What are these files? They seem to be generated by BB but I am not really sure about that.

Not a clue, Graham.
Just to be clear, you mean in the main /BB folder, right under the subfolders such as Uninstall and VSC? How did you sort?
I also looked for any file with the extension .PRJ and did not find one.
What are the dates on these files?
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

No, the are not in the bb /folder. bb is on the external drive. I keep all my songfiles on the computer main hard disk. They are filed in Windows 7 in: Libraries Music My Music BAND-IN-A-BOX FILES Then there are various headings of styles of music such as 'JAZZ-DIXIELAND-AZ'. There are maybe 50 of these subheadings. At the same level as these are the 1688 files which seemingly are generated by the process of filing but maybe I am wrong about that. Checking the date, as you requested, it blows my theory about being generated by the filing process - maybe. The 50 odd files all have the same date Created 27 July 2010, Modified 3 June 2009, Accessed 27 July 2010. Maybe they are not related to Band-in-a-Box at all? Or perhaps they are and were some kind of update that could not find a proper home. Very puzzled but if nobody has any suggestions I will move on to my next Band-in-a-Box mystery.  I have several.

I've never known BiaB to create files of those suffixes.
Why not try Googling the suffixes, perhaps you can find out what they are and what program(s) put them there and use them.

Those are Projects files that are related to some other music program you are using.

You need to look at some other programs as being the source of these files. There are a number of programs that use .prj extensions for their project files. I've typically seen this file in ESRI applications that I use at work like ArcView, ArcGIS etc. There are also programs like 3D Studio and Multi-Edit that use the extension, and there are probably others.
