Don't think I'll be spending any money on it in this lifetime.

At first look I am rowing in the same boat as Keith, but I have to admit part of me says I would like to play that thing just once!

Keith and Danny,

After watching part of the first 2 videos, I felt the same as you guys. But after watching the last video on this page, it is more interesting. The guy plays it like a guitar instead of trying to use it as a pseudo keyboard or tapping device.

Can't understand though why its doesn't have a guitar head stock on it (if thats the right name for it) I think it would look far more attractive if it had a fake one to make it look more complete.

Looks to have similar function to the Synthax from the 80's. Only a couple players made use of that thing - Allan Holdsworth being one and then the percussionist for the Bela Fleck and the Flecktones group. That guy just used it as a midi controller to trigger percussion samples for the most part.

However this thing has a sample playback engine in it which sounds pretty decent in my opinion. $219 seems pretty cheap actually if it's got decent tracking.

Hi

i brought the you rock guitar and have found it very hard to get good results the worst part to me is the sound it needs to be much louder,i don`t think its very good to learn how to play the guitar it does not replace a stabdard guitar its ok to input notes into BIAB but thats all to get good results you have to be a really good guitarist in the first place which i have found im not
regards Dave

you can buy a head stock if you need to

Wow! I've wanted a guitar that could input midi into BIAB for years (I'm really lousy on keyboards). For this price, I think I'm going to get one and see what I can do with it.

looks like it would do an excellent job as MIDI controller... and for a lot less money and a lot less unintended notes than a Roland GK-3 pickup or Godin.

For a guitar player who wants the device only to input MIDI notes, it may well be the best bang for the buck.

But the reason RealTracks are so useful in computer based music is that they free us from the failed task of trying to make a midi guitar sound like a real guitar. Only audio recordings of a real guitar sound good enough to be on a serious recording.

For that reason I see this as a really good idea that came about 3 years too late.

Pat, this may work to input midi notes as you have indicated however You Rock Guitar will not make midi guitar sound anymore realistic than a keyboard. Midi is midi regardless of the method of input.

Star Labs have made a very similar instruments called Ztar for a few years now. The difference is there are a lot more options in the Ztar line and they start around $2,000 USD.

I would like to get my hands on a You Rock Guitar just to see how it performs. But I’m still working on my very basic keyboard and wind controller skills for midi input.

I actually have one. Bought it and then work picked up and I have not had time to experiment with it much. It is an interesting piece of kit. You can get some pretty good results but not without practice. You have to get used to the touch and sensitivity. It will control soft synths but then again you have to get used to the fretboard. The tap mode creates some interesting sounds with strings and brass. I also want to experiment with my iPad to see what I can do with those two devices.

With the limited time I have had I actually have found the strumming feature to be harder to master than the tapping feature. The feel is just so much different from my regular guitar. You can adjust the sensitivity which helps a little. They have instructions on their site to do this.

You have to look through Youtube videos as usual to see what the real capabilities are. There are several players out there that have mastered the thing and can produce some pretty neat sounds. Then there are the others that have a video camera, enjoy getting themselves on the internet, but really cannot play worth a lick. Not knocking them and their passion. It just creates more search time for those looking for examples and information. I have found as with most instruments it comes down to how much time you want to invest to learn the thing. If you are going to get one you might try AMS or one of the other big online firms that give you the option of return if you really don't like it.

There's a reaason that a good quality MIDI guitar setup can cost around a thousand bucks US.

I don't recommend trying to use this thing as a substitute, although you might get a few cursory aspects to work for you, don't expect too much.

Interesting but it doesn't appear to have real strings. I don't trust no GI-tar ain't got no strings.

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
