What would cause the message 'disc error' when I try to apply effects to an audio track I've recorded? I get that message regardless of the effect I am trying to apply. It allows me to apply effects to real tracks in the song but not tracks that I have recorded. I have saved, rebooted and tried again but it's still the same.

Not sure Andy if this is one of your reasons - but if you've done editing on your recorded tracks, perhaps they need to be consolidated - too many edit points and I've had plugins refuse and I've seen that message. So Select your track, go to the tracks menu, find and click on consolidate. Then try what you want to do. If you already know about consolidate, then my apologies if I've insulted you. Andy,
I've seen a similar message when I'm trying to apply effects to a track but have not actually highlighted a section in the track to be effected. Try highlighting the section you want the effects applied to, or select the entire track, and see if this works for you.

what kind of effect? If you are say adding some reverb, try opening a aux buss ( in the mixer view, the top row of busses to the right hand side) the add the reverb there, and then set both the send and receive knobs to full on, on the aux buss, then slowly dial in the amount sent from the tracks send area.

Ian, followed your tip thanks and it worked a treat. I had edited the recorded tracks and when I consolidated, good as new.

I actually wish this "consolidate" could be a "one button" procedure.

I've suggested the same. Should be no need to 'select all', as that is the purpose of consolidate. Put it in the wishlist Ian!

Bob - You know there have been times when I've just opened consolidate and used the arrows for the extremes,
then after pressing OK I got a window box telling me that I wasn't consolidating the whole track. So I started using "Select Whole Track" and never had that window appear again.
Seems to me that started appearing in RB 2011.
I'll try it again the old way with all of the recent upgrades.
