I rarely import a vocal audio track into a previously created BIAB MGU or SGU.
However the odd time I do, it often doesn't line up - ie: maybe a half a bar off. Then, as in RB or PT, I open AudioEdit and expect to be able to highlight the whole wave and use CTRL-Mouse to "slide" the whole wave into position - that would make sense, right? Same connected software, same mode of operation.

But not so - I haven't discovered how to do this easily.
Is there a way?

Ian

Only had to do it once or twice, and the only way I found was to use Edit to either Cut out a snippet of audio, letting the rest move over to fill the area and thus move ahead, or Paste a small snippet of audio there at the beginning, to move it to the right.

It was trial and error to get it lined up right.

There may be a better way and I don't know it either...

Audio/Edit Audio/Time Shift Audio(ms)
You can also use the standard cut/paste commands. With or without the "snap" feature.

Ian,

Hi-light the wave file from where the vocal starts, then use edit/cut & edit/paste. Most of the time it will line up with the "snap" button selected. If not, then slide the audio with audio/time shift and enter a + value to slide away from beat 1 or - value to slide toward beat 1. I usually start with 60 ms to slide it a single beat.

Hi Rob

Actually I was taking the audio track back from RB - to use as a guide for a re-work of the BIAB file.

Mac - now that is a mystery why they haven't added such a basic feature. There are always workarounds but
. . . so basic. And as you say, so tough to get it bang on.

John and Trax - I'll give both of your suggestions a shot.

I still can't understand why certain functions are not the same across their software.

Usually with BIAB I end up having to delete the audio track after failed attempts at editing, and then have to re-import it.

Thanks - Ian

Yes, you can also use the Audio timeshift. If you know the number of beats you need to shift, converting to PPQ is a simple matter then multiply by number of beats.

Thanks Mac - I've used it for midi shifting but not in BIAB.

But still maybe we need some rudimentary audio functions for that 1 track in BIAB.

I know that's the purpose of RB, but still audio track sliding could be very useful.

Any other audio track suggestions for the wishlist.

I end up doing a LOT of sliding because I add drum fills with a drum machine and as close as I think I am when I tap the buttons, I am not always on it so I have to slide. I is SIMPLE with RB. Make your view as big as you need to in order to live up the downbeat, grab the chuck you want, hold control and drag..... done. My cymbal crash or harmony vocal is right where it should be.

As I learn more about RB I am realizing how much I have to learn to realize how much I don't know. Every day I use RB I get "stretched" a little more.

There are those of us who still insist on using BiaB - and only BiaB - for things such as Live Performance support or jazz practice. Therefore it is always good to know how to make something work inside BiaB alone.

Those who only view this wonderful program as a recording aid or the likes often seem not to get that.

Some use RB for live performance work, but for jazzers, the ability of BB to generate slightly different performances is reason enough to stick with doing it this way.
