Good Morning everyone (Flan the Greenhorn here):
First off, if anyone happens to be in the path of Irine (or has friends and family in those effected areas) I am praying for the protection of every soul.
Now, on to the CRUX:
I using BIAB 2011 with a cool little jazz demo thing going...trying to make it my own.
I am adept at choosing higher banks via BB to my Yamaha Motif XS.
I am finding that (within the Motif) when I choose to "edit" a Motif voice (in this case it happens to be the distortion level of a guitar patch I like) all is well "while the song is playing"...even in LOOP mode it's OK.
(This is done on BB's THRU channel/track by the way.)
However, when the song is stopped and PLAY is pushed again, this voice edit reverts back to its original setting (a lower value of distortion in this case)...aarrg. Good thing lots of time was not invested here.
Some things I have tried thus far as to weed out the MIDI gremlins: -Saved + -Made sure nothing was "frozen" (just in case...may have no affect w/midi...not sure yet) -Saved Motif mixer settings, and saved what is called a "mix voice" setting (this can be done within a Motif song in SONG mode; fyi).
Granted, I am NOT playing live, so later when I want to go to the DAW, I can just dial it back in.
BUT...if I WERE playing live...am I missing something?
From what I CAN tell, BB can obviously tell my Motif to set/reset some basic parameters like REV/CHO/PAN/VOL and of course patach changes etc...as they are set/saved in the current BB song.
Hmmm...well, maybe there's a MIDI filter setting on the Motif that can be set to ignore some BB things in this regard.
Scratching my head.
Thanks all...and I apologize for the long post.
Regards, Eric

Ok Guys 'n Gals...I fingered it out!
With enough synapse sizzling I just found out that this is a Motif (keyboard) issue.
I'm so excited...it's the little things (recording/software revelations) that make me feel like I accomplished something...I digress...
Anywho, if ANYONE else ever has a similar problem, here's the fix:
SAVE the "tweaked" Motif (or any keyboard you're using) voice as a USER voice.
You see, I was using a voice located in the PRE (preset) bank.
DUH!
Now, when you tweak out your song in BB and regenerate, the edited parameters in the Motif's voice remain in tact!
Yippie!
Hope this may help someone in the future.
Regards, Eric

Good thinking on the troubleshoot, Eric.
Sometimes we just have to stop and think abit outside our own self-imposed boxes in order to understand how to get some of these things to do our bidding.

There should be a Motif Biab "Patch" list to download from the main PG Music "Support" page. Installing the higher banked patch list should also allow you to use the voices located in the higher banks on the Motif.
I use a Tyros here with its patch list, works like a charm.

Trax & Mac:
I hear you (sigh), but unfortunately, a patch map for my particular brand of Motif does NOT exist (Motif XS) on PG's website. It has not been deveopled by Yamaha or an inspired, adept, supremely intelligent, independent individual...who happens to have 12.4 Giga-hours of time on their hands to spare for the betterment of mankind!
I contacted Yamaha about this...with no recourse I'm afraid...it's up to us.
I must admit, I have figured out (decoded) the mystery with higher bank patches...(in regards to the Motif that is).
The Motif has a cool function/display called Category Search.
When I'm in the "multi-timbral" mode, I can press this button [CATAGORY SEARCH] and I instanly have a categorized list of the patches. I can scroll down etc, and when I pick the right one, voila, it tells me what bank (USER/PRE) and the patch (A1 thru H16; that's HEX for you digital nerdz...I used to be one).
So any-hoozers, I have a Motif DATA List booklet, and it gives me the LSB and MSB that I need. There is; however, an offset of ONE when it comes to this; PRE ONE is actually LSB 0 (brain mangler I know)...but you get used to it.
In my case, I've chosen the Motif ES Patch Map (which is a CLOSE cousin of the XS) and just winged it from there when I'm working...connect the dots and wham-oh, I'm good.
For anyone just getting their feet wet, the cool thing with "my" set up is, when I tell BB what patch to use (that is, hitting the "+" button on the main screen), my keyboard responds repectively...and I can see it flip-flop through the change instantly (as I change patches in BB's GUI that is).
This is cool (especially when you're trying to FINGER things out) because you can tell instantly whether you're in the right bank or not (that's how I learned)...mystical MIDI Magic there is...LOL...
Just have to "bear down on it"...and figure it out on your individual system.
Manuals are awesome (guys HATE to admit that). To quote a college professor of mine (from years past): "When in doubt, READ the manual"
LOL
Words of truth.
Thanks guys...I hope someone will benefit from this in the future (if they do a seach that is).
I've got another question for you later...in another thread.
Regards, Eric

Yamaha has always used 1 less than most others in their number scheme. Roland,Korg, etc use 1-128, Yamaha uses 0-127
Have you checked on the Sonar site to see if they have one? If so you may be able to convert in BiaB or RB.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

You might try starting out with downloading any available Patchmap for one of the lesser Motifs, typically these things will use the same locations, just less of it. And it is far easier to manualy ADD any new banks and voices to an already existing Patchmap list. Quote:
There is; however, an offset of ONE when it comes to this; PRE ONE is actually LSB 0 (brain mangler I know)...but you get used to it.
There is a setting inside BiaB for that, under the GM menu, look for "zero based" or "Yamaha" patch numbering and invoke it. Then the main GM patchlist will line up, as well as any banks with patch numbers that you enter in BiaB.

I have the much "lesser" original Motif Rack, and the sort of "lesser" Motif ES8... I love to use both in tandem..or harmonically..or differnt patches on each...with a Yamaha CS6X sampling keyboard...love those breath inputs!
I have a Korg Triton, Korg Karma and Korg PA-80..and last, my 'ol Korg M-1+
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the other BIAB sources for patches: my Roland XV-5080 Rack, Roland G+1000 arranger, Ensoniq EPS+ and Akai S-5000 Sampler.
along with a few Boards in the above, I can run stuff thru my Digitech Vortex...
BIAB eats this stuff up and spits it all out...you know the ol' Garbage In --Garbage Out!! My iPOD touch does the same thing thru it's BIAB...spits everything out!!
Oh....you done good, too...you have good taste in hardware, genre....and women??
Yamaha...Motif ES-8, Motif Rack, CS6X Korg...Karma,Triton Classic, PA-80, M-1+ AkaiSampler-S5000, Roland.. X5080 Rack/G-1000 Arranger Various Guitars/Basses Amps Pedals Rec.Equip.
Plus, BIAB 2015 and Sonar Platinum 2015 Upgrade from Cakewalk's Sonar X-3
