What's up with many Real Tracks not sticking to the chords I entered ?

Ex: Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming AcRockBright Ev 120

more often than not it doesn't play straight major / minor chords as entered, but all sorts of creative open string extended voicings, making it kinda pointless to use for a concrete arrangement idea

Repro : use on straight "a minor", solo track and be amazed, this stuff might sound good in one very specific song but it clashes with everybody else (not to mention a given chord sequence) like there's no tomorrow ...

- user error ?
- installation error ?
- default behaviour ? (in that case please file under improvement request !)

Thanks,
Rhino

Hi Rhino,

Welcome to the forums

Try right-clicking in the middle of a bar in Chord View and selecting "Song Settings" from the pop-up menu. One of the options that will appear is "allow embellishment of chords" (see image below). I've found that when I uncheck this option, the chords usually show less flamboyance.

Regards,
Noel

Hello Noel,
thanks for the welcome and tip !
I already disabled this setting, made no big difference, unfortunately.

If you find the time, please try the example I mentioned, only takes a minute.
Drives me crazy as it's not a quick transitional note, sometimes these add- or sus- or whatever chords last for a complete bar ...
I could easier live with substituting more basic chord versions at times, but starting out a simple a-minor groove with one of these atmospheric beauties is, well, innovative.
Still hope it's my fault somehow.

And yes, I could record the acoustic guitar myself no problem, but exactly that is what I try to avoid when arranging, I like to be able to use BiaB's Lego approach in that phase of writing.

Thanks again,
Rhino

I think, and this could be completely wrong, that the checkbox to "Allow Embellishment of Chords" applies only to MIDI tracks. It is a holdover from the days when BIAB was all MIDI.

You might have a point here, Matt, I also remember this having big impact with MIDI styles.

Thanks,

Have you tried the same sequence but with substituting other RealTracks guitars and does it do the same bad thing then?

*When BiaB does something that it is not supposed to do, or doesn't do something that it did but now doesn't -- first thing to try is a Reboot of the computer, then see if the problem is corrected. If that doesn't do the trick, then try the Return to Factory Settings command under the Options menu.

I tried the other two variations of that style, same thing.
One other style behaved correctly afair, but it didn't have that straight eight feel I was going for.
My bad, I'm not familiar enough with the material on offer yet.

It's just, when I hear the incredibly musical quality of e.g. the Mason or Franklin tracks I tend to take these comparatively simple things (straight eight strumming plain minor / major triads) for granted, but that might be my mistake.

It's definitely not a reboot issue, I will try the reset thing, but I'll have to do an OS image first.

Thanks Mac,
Rhino

Some RealTracks have "simple variations", which would only play unembellished chords. But we need to make those specifically for each RT, and there isn't one made for the style that you mentioned. Please add that to the wishlist.

I'm very new to Band in a Box and have the 2011.5 version but can't seem to figure out how to utilize the real tracks that I have available. I have located the real tracks that I currently have with the standard version of the program. I have not yet purchased any additional real tracks. My quesiton is how do I use the real tracks rather than just MIDI sound styles? I guess I'm just struggling with the basics and getting started. Any advice will be appreciated.

Cooler74,
First move this thread to a new one so your questions don't get lost.

Then start my watching the videos on the Support page.
http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

Also while you can select any instrument in the top menu bar and insert any RT into any Style (Midi or RT), it may be best for you to look for a RealTrack Style in the Style Finder as these will have the RT's included by default.

Oh, and by the way welcome to the Forum.

Thanks Jazzmandan. I'll take your advice and see if I can get rolling with this program.
