Hi All!

This is an easy one to answer, I would imagiine.

I'm working with a couple of tunes at the moment that are in need of specific parts that are not even remotely part of the the RealTracks in the UltraPlusPak.

Some of the tunes need a specific "Line" to be inserted played by the Bass, and Keyboard and/or Guitar. Other tunes just need a specific "instrument" that can only be produced by my "Synth"!

Question....

When I have a specific RealTacks project set up and need to add additional midi tracks to it, can I just click on the "Instrument Button" and then assign the midi instrument, or do I need to "Create" a whole new "Style" before I can import my midi track.

I think I've tried to just import a midi track into a "RealTrack" style and wasn't able to do it by just importing a midi instrument (not 100% sure about this).
I'm just trying to figure the most expeditious route to importing midi into a project with "RealTracks"!

Can anyone make a suggestion??

Harpo

Harpo -

You have two tracks that you can do anything you want to and that don't get regenerated - the melody and soloist track. You can specify whichever MIDI instrument you want for either of those, and then enter the MIDI notes where you need them to play.

However, you may find that doing this is RealBand may be easier.

In addition to being able to enter or record MIDI onto the two tracks mentioned, you also have the option of importing standard MIDI file onto the Melody track and having it paly back in the SEQ sequencer on that track. Using this method, you could theoretically have up to 16 separate MIDI tracks in there, although it is unlikely you would need that many.

What Mac said . . . .

If I need a song specific hook, I import it from a midi file and use the .seq function, or I simply record the part to either M or S track.

An imported midi track will NOT regenerate, so you are dealing with song layout, chord structure, and the Biab style when you press the play button to have the Biab backing parts "line up" with the imported midi track.

OR

Import the original midi file into RB. Then erase all of the backing parts and save the specific hook part(s). Then generate your backing parts "around" the specific hook part(s). Be sure to double check the chord layout prior to generating any RB parts though

What Trax said, plus, you can go into the SEQ tracks section and remove the parts you don't want. I've found that by muting certain style tracks and SEQ tracks (In BIAB now) you can set up the specific type of rhythm you want as well. Then when you save as a midi file to RB or PTW you can separate out he tracks so that they're equally on their own tracks.

BTW you do have to be careful when doing this. When you use the extraction method, sometimes, RB or PTW will over run some of the tracks because that was where they were in BIAB. I've gone so far as to save parts of BIAB midi at a time, then open RB and import each midi track in. In that way I can control what gets put where. How cool is that?
