Hi Everyone,
I have chosen a RT style that works well with my song. What is the easiest way that I can find the closest all-MIDI style (in terms of instrumentation, tempo, feel, etc.)? I seem to recall that the program will help you choose the closest RT style if you have originally chosen a MIDI style, but will it do the reverse? Ultimately, I am trying to export the song as a midi file (which I understand will not include all of the articulations that the RT would provide me).
Thanks!

I think you'll just have to use the style picker and audition midi styles that have a similar "feel" - tempo, swing vs strait feel, genre, etc. I don't think BIAB will do this automatically for you, but you can set style picker to audition styles on double clicking them as the song plays...

....What Bruce said. You can't change an audio file to a midi file. I would start with Genre (i.e. jazz ballad, country waltz, etc..) and do your own filtering.

Try disabling RTs for that style. There are probably underlying Midi parts.
I experimented with copying a RT piano part to a midi track. It sounded farily close to the RT. Of course, this depends on your midi synth.

Thanks! Quick question from a newbie - how do I disable the RTs for a style? Will this work even if the style consists solely of RTs?

Hi I use mainly RealBand where you could click 'Also generate Realchart' and regenerate the RealTracks adding midis. Not all RT's have charts written though... Richard.

In RealTrack Prefs, there is a checkbox to Enable RTs. Uncheck it and no RTs will play - only the Midi parts.
My other suggestion may give you better results as long as the RT generates RealCharts (as Richard noted). If you want to try it, generate the RT and copy it to another part such as the Soloist. Mute the RT and assign the part to the desired Midi instrument. I've had good results with piano RTs.

Hi bharris, Another technique that might yield results is to use the Stylepicker window and to look for similar styles in the MIDI section of the window. For example, I looked under Country styles and found a Realtrack-based style for waltzes. All these styles started with "BG" (the underscore means that Realtracks are contained in the style). Now that I have the name I'm looking for, when I scroll down to the MIDI styles, I find ... The above MIDI styles may or may be a good substitute for the _BG Realtracks styles but they're what I'd try as a starting place. It's been my observation that, sometimes, Realtrack-based styles are developed from one of the original MIDI styles and comparing names often allows a person to track down the original MIDI style if one was used. NOTE: If a style has _ or = in front of it, it contains RTs. Any other character in front of the style indicates that it's a MIDI style. Regards, Noel

Thank you everyone! This is very helpful. Is there an easy way to determine which parts have Real Charts associated with them? Are these underlined in the part listing at the top of the screen?

Yes, the Trackname in Green means it is a RealTrack. Underscore of the Green trackname means that Notation is also supported. There are some Realtracks that were made prior to the addition of Notation, so those won't show the underscore.
On a Guitar Realtrack, there are also two variations of underscore. Half underscoring indicates that there is a chart for the track, but not a "full" guitar chart with TAB, etc.

Hi bharris,
There is a text file in your "BB" folder called "RealTracksSubs.txt". If you open this file and do a search (CTRL + F) for a RealStyle name, such as "_TRAINP" - any line you find the style in will start with the name of a similar MIDI style. Each line starts with a MIDI style, followed by a number of RealStyles that are similar, so you might find the RealStyle on multiple lines.
