for some reason when i load a song that uses a midi part (bass, piano, soloist seem to mess up the most) it has disappeared ? I tried return to factory setting with no use.
Luckily most of my songs use all real tracks and they are fine no issues with them, but the few that I still used a midi part are gone. same thing happens when I choose certain styles for new song, some of the midi parts are missing?.
wondering if I should try reloading a previous template ?

This is one I haven't heard before.
I assume from your post title that the songs reload, but without data in the MIDI tracks. Is that right? MIDI data in the Melody and Soloist tracks would be there, but on any other track, you would have to press Play to generate the new MIDI data (unless the tracks were frozen; were they?).
If that isn't the problem, could you please tell us what version of BIAB, what version of Windows, whether or not you have UAC off, and whether you use an external drive or installed to your own hard drive? Is this a new behavior, and if so, did anything change recently on your system?
Doing the Opt., Return to Factory Settings is always good. Did you also reboot?

Try these from the FAQ: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq23.htm#76http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq23.htm#111Also, we should talk about soundcards and maybe soft synths. The Microsoft MIDI Mapper is perhaps the worst possible choice for sound.

I have a similar problem and it only just started to happen. Tracks are missing in midi only files. Tracks are also missing in RealTracks when an instrument is frozen. Even worse, the program now freezes about 6 bars into some tunes and then crashes! I have not worked out the common factors here but the crash seems mainly to be with old midi files of which I have hundreds with no suitable RealTracks to replace them.
I am running Windows 7 64bit and have installed all the latest updates.
Actually, I think this problem only started after I installed build 329.

Both of you should try Return to Factory Settings.
Optins->Return to Factory Settings, try the second button down, which also resets MIDI/Audio stuff as well as the program.
Most of the time, when you can't hear the MIDI play, take a look at the keyboards as top of screen as the song attempts to play - if you see notes highlighting but cannot hear them, likely time to visit the Options-> MIDI->Audio settings and reset the selections there. Microsoft MIDI Mapper should *NOT* be your selection, unless that is all that you have. The Microsoft MIDI Synth is a better choice to highlight, and if you have a DXi synth installed on your computer, check the box "Use DXi" down below.

The OP said in his original post that he did the return to factory settings.

Saw that, Matt, but wanted to make sure that the SECOND BUTTON for Return to Factory was tried, as the first one won't also re-invoke the MIDI/Audio Selection Wizard.

As of now, I think I solved the problem
in the opt > midi setting >
I unchecked the use VST/Dxi ( I really dont remember ever checking it in the first place?)
right now the settings are
no midi/soundinput midi output drive-- microsoft GS wavetale synth latency is 197
I havent had chance to go through all the songs and check but the 5 I did are all good, I think this solved it
thanks for all the feedback

I was wrong, I did check the vst/dxi box, I guess I did it when I was rendering a song as a wav file and didnt switch it back .
