Why is it that when I want a 2 bar ending and say "start the ending 2 bars early" it never works? The end always comes 2 bars later than I want.

I can't figure it out either. What might be nice is a video tutorial on endings

I zeem to recall that the "4 bar Ending" setting in the Song Settings dialog had something to do with it working that way, but its been awhile since I had to force an early two-bar ending. Check that out, though, Rightclick on the bar and choose Song Settings.

If all else fails, it may be time to do the Return to Factory Settings...

I get the same results if I have the "4 Bar Ending" selected or not.

Hi Petimar,

Does your song have more than 1 chorus? If you try just 1 chorus, does the ending start 2 bars early?

All of my tunes have multiple choruses. I'll try one and see what happens. I'll also try MIDI and real tracks and report back.

I'd like to attach two BIAB files to illustrate this problem (probably just I don't know how to use the 2 bar ending feature!!). Can I attach a file to my post?

Post attachments are not possible, but you can attach the Band-in-a-Box song files to an email and send it to:

Blake gave you a good option, but you certainly can attach any file or picture to a post. You need to have a hosting site like your own webpage to upload the files to then you simply use the feature in the posting to attach or insert a link or actual picture - but wait you do have a website...

OK these files are available at

http://www.yousendit.com/download/bHlDb2VGaTFubHgzZUE9PQ

One file is real tracks, one MIDI. I get the same result in both.

What I want is the ending played in bars 9 and 10 to play in bars 7 and 8. Seems to me the checked "Start the ending 2 bars early" should accomplish this, but no.

If anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it. I have a few hundred Jazz files where I'd like this to happen.

Tried it out and it doesn't seem to work with a tag ending; however, if you unfold the song and take out the tag, the "start 2 bars early" works. Sounds like a bug to me. I'd send PGMusic an email to support at pgmusic dot com and reference this thread, and maybe it will be fixed in the next patch.

George Wixon has tutorials on endings on his site. Some of you may already know of his site, but I find it very useful..

Hi Petimar,

I looked at your examples. In the song settings if you change the "tag ends after bar #8" to "tag ends after bar #6" does that give you what you are looking for? I think that the tag settings have precedence over the the start ending 2 bars early setting so the ending can't begin before the end of tag.

Regards,
Ed

Mostly I use BIAB for Jazz and Bluegrass improv practice.

Usually I have written a beginning chorus (A), several choruses of improv (B), an ending chorus (A) and then the tag. Doing this means writing an arrangement straight through is not an option.

The key here is the tag. You used the term "tag" but the full term is "tag ending". It's already an ending so you can't add another ending to it. I think Ed has the right idea, you have to play with the last bars of the tag itself to get it to end like you want.
