I need a 1st ending that is 1 bar in length. When I specify this in the Edit Repeats and Endings Dialogue, it appears correctly in the window but when played back, it does not go back to the section that should be repeated. My endings configuration is as follows:

Repeat begins at bar #9
1st ending begins at bar #24
1st ending lasts for 1 bar
Endings type 1st/2nd endings

When I go to Edit from the Edit Repeats and Endings Dialogue window, I see "1st ending begins at bar 24, lasts 1 bars. Repeat begins at bar 9".

It looks fine in the main window but when played back, it seems that after the 1st ending, the chord is hung up on the last chord of the 1st ending and lasts for the duration of the section that should be repeated, i.e., from bar 9 to bar 23 (25 through 39). Also in Notation mode, there are no chords for the repeat section (bars 25 through 39).

Anyone have an ideas about how to troubleshoot this one? Thanks.

Should mention that I'm using BIAB Version 2004c (yup still can't afford an upgrade)

It sounds like you needed to select the "Generate new bars" when adding the ending. Please check out this tutorial as it explains everything better than I can:

http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_repeats.htm

Look at the section on 1st/2nd endings.

I'm having trouble remembering what version 2004 did and did not do regarding endings. You might need to call PG Music Support, where they would know for certain.

One tip is that the endings do not have any effect if there is only one chorus set for the song (instead of the default three choruses).

Hi Matt,

I found this doing a search on the PGMusic site:
Band-in-a-Box 2004 now includes notation support for repeats, first and second endings, DS/DC al Coda symbols and more. Users can now
add these repeats and endings so that the Lead Sheet window will display and printout with 1st/2nd endings. There’s even a NEW Wizard
that will add 1st/2nd endings automatically! Users can now view and convert current song collections to include 1st/2nd endings in lead sheet
format.

Very helpful, Ed. I knew it was sometime around then and did not want to guess. My advice to jazzm still stands, as well as yours.

To tell you the truth, it seems like just yesterday that they added that feature! The years are really flying by!

BTW, I really love your CD. I bought it a few(??) years ago and still enjoy listening to it!

Thank you very much, Ed! I really appreciate your kind words about my CD. That you listen to it more than once means a lot. All nine songs started in BIAB. Last year, my percussionist released a CD with eight more of my BIAB-originated songs.

And yes, I've been using BIAB since the early 1990s and there is a lot to keep up with, as they keep improving the program. I even worked for them doing MIDI editing at one point. You may have noticed the mention of Archive.org on another thread. This website allows you to go back and see what PG Music's website looked like after each product release, and I have often used it to answer forum questions.

Ed J.,
Thank you! From the tutorial:

Quote:

When creating a repeat, it is usually best to input your entire song in linear form, the way it would look if you didn't have any repeats. Then, define your repeats, ensuring that the "generate (insert) new bars" setting in the Repeats and Endings dialog is unchecked.

This is the step I was missing. I was NOT inputting in linear form so BIAB created the repeat but there was nothing to repeat! After inputting in linear form, everything worked as advertised!

Thanks again.
