PT12 . . .

Been using it since it's release. YEARS! Something just changed.
No idea why! And I can't find any relative settings.

WAS: Open PT. My Tracks window opened to the new view/tracks window.
"Last used" track opens. Loads in tracks window, and I'm good to go.

IS: Now, when I open PT, the Tracks Classic View window opens. Once the
"last file used" opens, (default set to open last edited file) the tracks
windows minimizes.

Then I click on the icon to expand it, it's Classic View". Then I have to go to
WINDOWS drop down menu and select "Tracks" for the new tracks view to open.

Classic View wasn't in the drop down menu before. Now it's there, and is the default
view.

If I go directly to drop down once file loads, and Classic View minimizes,
and click on tracks, it just maximizes the Classic View, and I have to open the menu
AGAIN, and click Tracks.

TRACKS is at the top of the menu, #1. Classic View is at the bottom, #9. #9 is checked.
Always checked. If I open the menu, and click on the check marked Classic View,
you know what happens? Classic View opens. It's still checked.

ALSO . . . Every time I open a different window, like bars, or Piano Roll, then close that window,
my Tracks window is closed, and I have to go thru the whole process again. Might seem trivial,
but it's a pain it the butt! In an hour of editing, I probably go thru the hoops 20 or 30 times.

Tracks shouldn't be closing every time I open a different window. It should still be open,
behind the other windows.

Not sure why this is happening. If you are programming savvy you could probably edit an ini file and change which window opens. Have you tried saving the song with the correct window setup? That *should* save the settings for the next time it opens.

Another idea; See what happens without the 'open last session' enabled.

Hmmmm.

I'll try changing the setting so the previous file doesn't open. It's always been set that
way. Why whould it change? ???

I tried making a new template but that didn't wsork either.

Weird that defaults would change. And why it reverted back to the old
Classic View is a real puzzle!

Thanks for the ideas.

A zero got changed to a one somewhere, most likely in the ini file or one of the config files. I don't have PT12 installed any more so I can't look.

Don't forget that you can set the Window display on steup by getting everthing set up and saving via File > Windows Setup. Default.rws is the one created automatically by PTW. Favorite.rws is used in preference if saved by you. Further, select New and set up all the Windows in the way you prefer and save the file as $Options.seq. This file can also set up the way a loaded file is presented.

I have to agree with everything rharv and LynB said, but if you can't sort a problem quickly, sometimes it's better to re-install PT. This does, I admit, seem to be my answer to most things, but think about it - a re-install takes what? About five minutes!

If you've made a safety copy from when you first installed and after you'd got your toolbar and windows arranged, you can simply delete the PT folder and load the safety copy. This takes about two minutes and means you don't waste time setting things up again. If you up-date the safety copy from time to time, it will even preserve your templates and plugin lists.

It won't solve every problem, but it should cure anything associated with a corrupted file.

Hey, it's Christmas Eve - happy Christmas everyone!
