Hello,

I have a song in 4/4. I have a need to specify a chord change to a resolution of less than a single beat. It is easy enough to specify a chord change at the level of a beat (using the comma separator like A,G), but what if I need (as an example) an 8th note of A and an 8th note of G (in the otherwise 4/4 song)? How do I do this?

Taking it one step further, how to specify a chord change in a 4/4 song at a resolution of a 16th note?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rightclick on the bar and choose "Chord Settings" then examine the little window that opens, note how at the top you can specify which beat, lower left you can specify a "Push" and whether of not the chord is pushed by 1/8th or 16th. Note that chords are Pushed *backwards* - such that the chord on beat 3, for example, would get pushed into the "and" of the preceding beat.

Hi, and thanks for the reply. However, when I right click a bar, I do not see "Chord Settings". I see something that starts with "--Substyle Change--". You are talking about right-clicking a bar in the main window in BIAB?

thanks for any response!

Hi Mac,

The procedure you refer to is for anticipation, having a chord change occur an eighth note before the beat.

I think what the poster referred to though, is actually changing the chord twice within a beat. And what about, for example, quarter note triplets.

Substyle Change comes up if you click on the Bar NUMBER and not on one of the actual chord cells within the bar.

Let's say you have 4 chords entered into a single bar of 4/4 time and you want the chord that is on the 3rd beat to actually start on the "and" of the 2nd beat.

Place the cursor over the 3rd chordname and RightClick. A menu window should appear with a list of options, look for the Chord Settings there and select it.

The rest is done by following the above directions, make sure that you have selected the 3rd beat chord with the little radio buttons at top of Chord Settings window, then select "Push by 1/8" in the lower left of same window. While you are there, good idea to examine all the other possibilities available in that window for future use.

The only thing we cannot do is place more than one chord per cell. Unfortunately. In other words, if you wanted a chord on the "AND" of 2 plus another chord right on 3, well, we have no way of doing that in the current versions.

So - can you not specify the chord like this anymore? Chord1,Chord2 (i.e. Cmaj7,C7) and have the chord change twice in one beat? That has been available for a long time. It doesn't deal with triplets, but at least you can change the chord twice in one beat.

If this has been removed in 2012, I won't be updating.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum.

There has been no change in this regard for version 2012.

With the comma in your example, you are describing two chords in two beats. It has never been possible to do two chords in one beat in BIAB.

There are some workarounds we could talk about. This related recent thread is useful: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=341127&an=0&page=0#Post341127

As far as chords per measure go:
C (Holds for 4 beats)
C (TAB) G (Each holds for 2 beats)
C,F (TaB) G,G7 (Each holds for one beat)

The software was designed that way, the above being a measure.

This suffices to say that 90 percent of music can be played without problem.

Secondly this has not changed in quite some time, it's always been this way.
