I upgraded to 2012, but found that the problems in 2009.5 that bothered me were still present in 2012. Also, I haven't discovered any new features or improvements that will benefit me.

So, what's the best way to revert to 2009.5?

I backed up the entire "\program files" and documents folders, and created a restore point on my XP SP3 system.

Thanks,

Al

You should have folders in your BIAB install directory that are named "(BIAB version) backup". I have a lot of them, from back to 2004. In those folders are the files necessary to revert to the listed version. I have never used these, but that is what they are there for. Of course the way your luck is running with BIAB so far, who knows what you will get. Good luck.

If you have the 2009 version on disc or hd, you could delete all things Biab and re-install. Make sure to hit the upgrade files for the '09 version after installing. You might want to check with support on which update build you will need for for your older version, but it shouldn't be a problem for a re-installation.

If 2012 has the same issues as 2009.5 why not keep 2012, nothing changes, and you have some new features, and RTs?

Just sayin' Kind of counter productive!

Your problems with not being able to end task biab once it crashes could well have more to do with your machine than biab. I highly recommend downloading sp3 from this link and installing it again even if it was originally installed from this source. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24

Ignore the advice to go to a different download. Because it's for multiple installations, this download is well tested and very stable, and easy to install on one machine. This way you know that you've got the latest and if your original update had or has developed any problems they'll be corrected. Doc Watson may need it.

Al,

If I were reverting to 2009.5 from 2012, I'd be doing this with help from PG Music's support team. The reason I say this is because a new audio stretching routine was introduced to BIAB in ver. 2011. It's possible that this might complicate the easy return to your previous edition if the program is installed on your internal hard drive.

I'd imagine that if you are running the program from a USB drive, you should only need to run the set-up file on the 2009.5 hard drive. As I said, though, I'd check with PG Music.

Regards,
Noel

I think Noel has a good point, since any RealTracks made from version 2011 on use the new algorithm and, if I recall correctly, can not be handled by versions older than 2011. I'm guessing you will need to do a reinstall of your earlier version (which, as has been pointed out, will not fix your underlying computer problem), but I would also recommend getting the advice of PG Music Support.

Just as an after thought to all of the suggestions above - maybe a clean install of 2012 into its own directory (or if on the usb drive version just run it from that drive) to see if the original hanging issue is inherited or not from 2009. BIAB really doesn't seem to care where you install it so long as you tell it where to find RT and RD files, etc.

I'd rather have $59 than new features that I don't use.

In any case, thanks for the help. Tech support suggested that I run the 2009.5 patch over top of the 2012 and it will revert back. I did that and it worked.

That is a fine reason IMHO!

It is a good reason. Of course, how many of us who have used this program for over twenty years actually know what all the features are? I learned another one this afternoon, and now that I know it's there, it's something I will use (adjusting the volume of holds in RealTracks). And it's new.

Something else I wonder about with 2012 out. When 2011 came out, I had a few friends who sent me a few songs they made on 2011 and they wouldn't work with 2009. They remade them in 2010 and they didn't play in 2009 either. We couldn't get the songs or the styles to work. He removed all the RTs adn switched styles but they still would not play. We gave up and never found out if a solution was found.
