Suggestions please and this request will show my lack of regular BIAB use, as well as show my true ignroance of what's under the BIAB hood: Etta James '60 studio version of "At Last" the lead-in/opening strings - looking for a MIDI/RT style (melodist, soloist, ?) BIAB filler riff, or other suggestions (yes, I know RT's has no strings - per se) for a lead in, outro and a bridge like constructions. I am NOT doing a cover or even a variation of "At Last" but really have an affinity for that mood and sound and have a few song ideas I'm working on which I would love to have similar constructs. And while I have access to great synth strings and string sections - alas I am NOT good enough at using my MIDI guitar or keyboards/controllers to emulate strings or string sections in a sufficiently realistic manor. Ironically, and sadly, my request comes at a time for Ms. James that we may all want to put her in our prayers and thoughts, especially this time of year. Thanks and Merry Christmas all! Larry PS side note: Those "strings" are used on a hell of a lot of Sinatra, Buble, Krall (et al) so am wondering if PG has any projects in the works to partially fill that particular void (I understand about getting musicians in the studio, in front of mic's for hours on end, to record riffs, sections of riffs, in multiple keys, tempos, ad infinitum ...and I'm sure it is a tedious, and from the musicians perspective, unfulfilling recording session). I'm actually thinking of getting the new Garritan Instant Orchestra for just such work but not sure that it fits this particular niche. I guess the downside would be if PG does that for ballads and "cry in my Scotch" blues with strings then I guess the MoTown crowd among us(of which I am also a member) would want the studio horns/brass sections of the 60's -70's.

Go to the Real Tracks picker. Filter for "Synth."
There are a couple of synth pad RTs that I have used to fill in the background strings might do.
Try them and see what you think.

Do you, or anyone else who knows chime in, know if the LRBASIE0.sty a Norton style?
I downloaded a At Last.MGU and it was looking for it - since I have all BIAB styles assume that it is either a Norton or a homegrown jazz style.
Thanks Larry

I have Ultra Plus Pak, think contains all the BIAB styles.
Contains these:
*_J1400TR Basie Big Band *J_BASIE1 Basie Big Band *J_BASIE2 Basie Big Band
Think these are standard PG sourced BIAB files.
Just went back and sub-ed _JAZZWES realtracks using suggestion from BIAB. The back end is a good fit, but dont like the melody voicing...
Good Luck !

I'm pretty sure that styles that start with "LR" are Lasse Ramberg, a guy from Sweden who created quite a number of styles which are available for free on the Internet. Scroll down here to the Bulk Contributions Section to download the various Lasse styles. Three might be more information in those files, as well as other styles you might want to try. Just a thought. Oh, and lots of other BIAB goodies at that page, too.

Already tried the particular substitution and a few others. I was less then inspired ; however, that is not styles fault - just my expectations I guess. I have all PG styles going back to DOS days and upgrade to the whatever the "kitchen sink" option is every year (actually twice a year now) so I knew it wasn't a PG style. But again Thanks.
John
Thanks for link the other link. When I visited it I recognized it. I've been to that site before - but old guy disease I FORGOT I even had that stuff and completely forgot about that site (it's now in my favorites - which I really need to re-org. What a mess -looks like the "\bb" root directory! )
FYI you are right that style is a Lasse Ramberg style! I had it, and lot of other stuff, in a buried download folder I had forgotten about. Now I need to clear away the cob webs and see what other items I have that I forgot about .
One of these days I might actually be able to help somebody here like you folks.

Larry,
Don't forget we are able to add harmonies to the melody/soloist tracks. There are a few "Strings" harmonies to choose from like, Nashville etc . . . The cool thing about using the harmony for string parts is when they change between the chords in your song. Some will add that 6,7 or 9th note(s) and give it some "movement." Works great !!

Larry,
I've found that sometimes when something specific is needed, it's necessary to do it myself. Quite honestly, I find that refreshing because it means that I'm not totally reliant on a computer. As I mentioned recently in another thread, a BIAB song generation for me is simply a starting place, not the end result. Strings are something that I very often use RB to create a midi track that I then use a VST stings plug-in with.
Regards, Noel

Trax,
As a Yammie owner, should have thought about your strings harmony suggestion. Excellent tip.
Thank you.

Lennart,
Right-click on a file and then choose to "Save link" (in Mozilla Firefox) or "Save Target" (in Internet Explorer). This will save the .mgu or .sgu file to your computer. When the file is saved (usually only a matter of seconds because they are relatively small files), start BIAB and then open the file from within it.
Regards, Noel

Same issue here when using IE8 - I should have mentioned this the other day
IN IE 8 (all updates) the "save target as" only gives an .HTM option (and that's' actually what it saves - a useless HTM file)
but using Firefox's "save link as" option DOES work and saves the MGU file Larry

Sounds like that is a problem of the coding in the webpage where you found the files.
Also sounds like you found a workaround.
Have Fun,
