Hi y'all, Each year for the over 10 years now Leilani and I have been honored to play for the U.S. Marine Corps Ball at the Jack Ivy Detachment in Fort Pierce / Port St Lucie Florida. That is the first gig we see a gentleman named Nate who is in the Marine Corps Reserve and runs the "Toys For Tots" program. We will usually see him on a few more parties picking up toys. He sings a song by Nat King Cole called "Toys For Tots" and does a great job a capella. We'd love to accompany him so I searched and found the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMPmJlbhjUU but I would love to find the sheet music so that I could get the correct chords. I googled and googled and can't find either the chords or the sheet or even the publisher. Can anyone help? Song? Chords? Publisher? - I don't mind buying it if the price is reasonable. A nice BiaB accompaniment or just strumming along with our guitars would be a nice addition to Nate's fine voice. Thanks, Bob

Hi Notes,
That was probably a commercial thus there may be no sheet music; I couldn’t find it either.
You may have to buy the MP3 and decipher the chords either by ear or using BiaB.
Good luck.
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

Can't find the mp3 either. The YouTube is fairly clear, and I suppose I could do a rough job of getting the chords by ear, but I'd rather have the correct chords. It's difficult to hear all the notes in the chords with a sparse arrangement with heavy vocals.
I suppose I could record the YouTube audio with Audacity and then run it in BiaB or Power Tracks Pro to get started, but from experience, with a sparse arrangement and heavy vocals neither program will nail it, although they will be a help.
In any case, I'd like the 'real' chords if I could find them.
It would just make us feel good to help the gentleman who does a lot of work for a very good cause.

Otay, got the chords laid out in BiaB.
Notes, PM me with an email addy and I'll attach the file if the addy you've published here isn't good or the likes. I will send to that one in a minute.
Didn't do the Melody or Intro notes, although the Intro and Outtro 4-baras are laid out chordwise. If you need those, just holler, I'll play 'em into the Mel track using the MIDI keyboard.
Nat Cole and Oscar Moore.
Always something neat, In this cae, its substituting the Vsus4 like that on each second bar of the intro, instead of just going to the five - rock 'n roll, those two were joined together at the navel or something. They certainly knew their theory. Always a pleasure.

"Notes", There are several versions of "Toys For Tots" at the iTunes store. $.99 to $1.29...most contain a few explanatory words...sort of like a commercial...kinda fun!

Going off on a slight different tangent on this. I know that Notes is a top professional musicians, one of the best on here, but just wondering is it a very difficult thing to interpet fairly difficult chords or is it one of these things that some musicians find it easy and others (like me) find it difficult?
thanks martin57

1) Thanks, Mac! I got your e-mail and attachment. That was very generous of you. I'm always impressed at the way you jump in to help your fellow musician.
2) Martin57 when I find chords 'by ear' I have always tended to simplify them, except when dealing with chord progressions that I'm familiar with. I usually get the basic triad and obvious extensions correct but fail on the finer points - perhaps because I spent most of my career as a sax player playing around chords instead of playing the chords themselves --- and when I use the BiaB auto-chord feature, I find it tends to over complicate them.
Nate (the Toys For Tots guy around her) has never asked us to accompany him. He has never even asked to use the mic but people who know him always ask him to sing the "Toys For Tots" song so we naturally lend him a microphone. Nate was in the chorus in school, he has a voice much like Nat "King" Cole and he has an excellent sense of relative pitch. It's always a joy to hear him sing.
So Leilani and I asked him if he would like some accompaniment, and he thought that would be great. We may not see him until the Marine Corps Birthday Party next year (we're automatically booked unless someone says 'No'), but when we do, it will be a pleasure to help this guy out. The Toys For Tots seems to be one of his personal projects and he works very hard to bring joy to the children of financially challenged families.
I'm always honored to play the USMC Birthday Ball and I'll be honored to put in my small contribution to the T4T program.
BTW, I had no idea the Toys For Tots had been around since 1947 until I met Nate and heard him speak about the subject. It's refreshing to see a charity work on an all-volunteer basis with no profits going to the people running it.
