Just wondering why the cost is the same ordering the upgrade with a USB hard drive as just using the download option.
A USB drive would at least represent some $20-30.
On top of it, shipping cost and customs if sent overseas.

The upgrade was 99$ plus 20$ if you wanted the hard drive. If you have good fast reliable internet then get it that way. Call Sales. But they might not like you until tomorrow, you were not supposed to win our hockey tournament! LOL

I had the UltraPak at $159 in mind (upgrade from version 2010) and the cost looks the same for both options.
The hockey final was a good one, lasted till 5am in the morning well worth waiting for.
I think it was some 30 years ago since we last took it, be generous :-)

I asked the same question several weeks back. The answer: "Well, that is just the way it is."  Actually you are saving the shipping cost and customs if sent overseas. I did the download only this year as I had a lot of prior HD's.

Customer relations must be handled a bit more professionally (I guess most of the PG Music actions are handled very good but when you're exposed to the exception(s) you're less happy ...)

I think you are looking at it wrong. You are buying the hard drive and program for $159
They allow you to go ahead and download it now if you want. It's huge; the drive will arrive shortly after you finish downloading. I don't see a separate download. It's "Hard drive & Donload" .. meaning you don't have to wait if you don't want.
PGMuic has mentioned before that the price difference they could offer between download and hard drive would make it silly not to get the drive. If nothing else, you have a backup of everything. I don't see a separate download option.
If you notice they don't throw that option in for Audiophile version because of the size.
That said, your best advice is to call the sales department; they will know if they can bend any on download only deal. Us users here just see the same thing you see (although in a different way sometimes).

Just to be clear here, just as the OP states, when I opted for "hard drive and download", it then wanted another $15 for shipping the HD. So it give me the option not to get the HD. OK, that's good, it saved me $15 in the shipping and I don't need the HD. Unfortunately, it do not reduce the product price when you opt not to get the HD sent. At the time I was a little surprized - but heck I was saving $15, so I got over it.

The USB drive is being used as the equivalent of what used to be floppies, then CDs, then DVDs, but the drive is now needed to accomodate the sheer data size increases as the technology marches on.
You aren't buying a USB drive, you are buying software.
PGMusic is not very likely to be making money off of the hard drive or electronic download differences.
One more time, as others have already mentioned, if you are concerned about the issue, why not contact PGMusic Sales directly and talk with the nice folks about your situation? They have a reputation as being quite fair.
