My name is John...

My version is BIAB 2011... I am trying to learn songs for the piano by reading the chord names as the song plays..... then I open up the Big Piano Window so I can know where to put my fingers on the piano... but the chords fingerings are not the correct notes for the chord... for example the first chord in the song a garden in paris by j l mays is a g7 sus when I play the song in the key of C.... however when I open the big piano window it shows the fingers for an fmaj7....

I tried rebooting BIAB and soloing just the piano... not knowing if it would have any affect... I was just grasping for straws.... it did not work though... any help would be appreciated...

Hi John - Welcome to the forum. Here are a few questions.

How did that song get into BIAB? Did you enter all the data, or did you get it from somewhere else?

Do you have the sheet music or some other source so you can say definitively what's right and wrong?

When you listen, does it sound right, the melody against the chords?

Look at the Leadsheet view. Are the melody notes the same as those shown on the Big Piano?

Answering these will help here.

If you have invoked one of the many ways to Transpose, somewhere, this could happen as well.

Or -- if the bass is playing a G, the piano might be selecting to sub a G13 chord. That is style dependent, so selecting another different style might shed light.

Sometimes the easiest way to get things back working right is to go to the Options menu and select Return to Factory Settings.

Thanks for the welcome....

and Thanks for your responses... The song came as one of the demo songs in BIAB 2011 I just went to songs and chose it.... it was the first one... Going to options and factory settings seems to fix it partially.... I say partially because once I hit replay it goes back to the wrong chord fingerings after I hit stop and replay just once....

So for example the first chord in a garden in paris should be an ab7sus and the notes for that are some variation of Ab-Db-Eb-Gb Instead, band in the box is playing Gb-Bb-F-Db... but if I hit restore factory settings it will play correctly Ab-Db-Eb-Gb for the first time until I stop it and then it goes back to incorrectly playing Gb-Bb-F-Db

Check Prefs-> Transpose and make sure that you haven't inadvertently toggled the global command that transposes by a certain number of half steps with each iteration. This is a Practice feature. You might also check the Practice window to make sure it is not invoked there somehow.
